not sure, but i think flt's had the same type box frame as the fxr's did. they are pretty hard to make look cool. dorky shaped tanks & triangle side panels. if building a swing arm bike, i prefer 4 speed frames.

I just did a 1981 fl tour glide. Lots of work and looks like all the rest of the 4 spdswing arm bikes now. I got my bike for cheap and Im a softy for shovels. The only thing really uniqe for me is the rubber mount setup on it. That bike looks good, ride and build something else.

yeah I am planning on riding the jesus out of it , it was more my curiosity than anything else... i was most curious about running it with out the front fender , but i think it would look a bit strange...

well, it was different. i don't know if it was the "goose neck" or what exactly. i wouldn't say it was but ugly, but then again i wouldn't spend money to go see it ether. damn hard to describe.

The front end on these bikes has reverse trees from normal, for better handeling of these barges. The neck is longer like a goose neck bike for the reverse tree setup. Pull your gas tank and youll find a 2x2 square tube. Not your normal bike.
The look I think you want you need a 4 spd frame not a rubber mount 5spd.
You can make nice bagger style low riders out of them tho. Put a 21 on the front and lower it with some pipes.
How much are you into the bike right now?

pull the 16 and put a 21" on there? loose the fender obviously... sounds interesting... trying to picture exactly how it would look... time for a google search

21 and leave the front fender on. Look into baggers and there is many styles that relate to that kind of bike. I dont think fenderless is one, but its your bike to do with what you want. they are a fat bike style not a stripper or chopper. Its a nice bike by the way.

My buddy picked one up running last year for like 2500 he put a few bucks into it and has it sitting low and fat on 16's and it like it! the frame kinda negates any exposure on this one...

I love those bikes just the way they are with some 14 or 16"apes.
