Yeah, I know about those. They are fixed gears. I've used them before, but I'm not a big fan of fixed timing on a street bike. To fit an AA to one of those is no easier than machining a steel timing gear. The steel gears have more gear whine, but I actually like that about them.

Well, after a bunch of design, punching, tooling, dyeing, and pulling about 25 feet of kangaroo lace through tiny holes....The saddle is finally done. This client requested having this Latin phrase on the saddle. Which is weird because I've always wanted to do a classy Latin phrase on a saddle, or on anything really.

Paint is next. Rich is just about to wrap it up. I can't wait :-D

pretty good! With Latin there is no exact translation, but the client said the thought is "all things I need, I carry with me" This bike was commissioned to honor the client's very loved, departed, step father. Very touching story really. It is going to CA, so may see it out your way at some point.
Cheers, Dan.

One of the two reasons I take a peek at this site every day. Nice work Dan. Sorry I missed you at Barber... couldn't make it because of a last minute scheduling conflict.

Great work as usual.

BTW. The other symbol... Eagle Scout???

Thanks! I hate leather work. It's a necessary evil though.

Haha! No worries on Barbers. Maybe next year we will get to meet up. I'm gonna try to buy a spot to have a booth for 2015 to display a bike or two and have a few other goodies for sale. The fleur-de-lis is another homage to his dad. He was a big saints fan.

Holy shit! Leather too?!

Many talented folks on this thread. I'm lucky if I can stay inside the lines with my crayons.

Leather is my cryptonite, it's not nearly as good as lots of others on this board. But, of all the leather work out there, this is some of it.

Great work on the seat, I wasn't aware you did your own leather tooling.
Can't wait for paint!
