Default Cheap tires?

Hi. I'm still a newbie here. I would like to know your insights on Cheng Shins. I saw it on sale at amazon and 4wheelonline. Will this go well with a shovel? I must say it's incredibly cheap when I saw it.

No. Friends don't let friends ride on Cheng Shins. If you were selling a bike, and it needed a new tire or 2 they would be the cheapest rim protectors you could get, apart from a used tire.

Look at Shinkos if you need an inexpensive tire. They are a deccent tire for the $ and they stick well. Like any tire, you need to choose the correct size and construction, speed rating, load rating, and rubber stickiness.

Cheng-shin makes a 4.00-18 tire that looks like an old Dunlop Trials Universal from the 1960s that isn't made any more. It looks great on my desert Sled Triumph that I do not intend to ride ever again. Cheng-Shins are perfect for that. They hold the air nicely and look great.
For riding get a shinko. I have shinkos here in my shop that are 20 years old, are still soft and show no sidewall cracking. Must be made of good rubber. On the road they have decent wear characteristics. Electron is right.

Cheng Shins were shit tires 40-50 years ago, and from what you fellas are saying, they're still shit. Makes me think that (a) there's still a sucker born every minute and (b) many guys who'd speak against them from personal experience don't do so because they're dead.

Chen Shin are Cheap and wear horribly. Remember this your tires are what keep you up. Tires are not where you should save money. The stingy man pays the most.

I bought a rear Cheng Shit for my GS 750 long ago and figured out why the local street racers liked them because they were sticky but unfortunately wore just like a pencil eraser, crumbs and all, when rubbed by thumb.

Tire changes (unless you do your own) aren't free and when they are I still don't enjoy doing them though I've plenty of experience and a decent manual Coates tire machine. That Cheng Shit was the last I bought and I've used Avon and Dunlop ever since. They last far longer and are actually cheaper than frequently swapping cheap tires (which I got to do plenty of for customers).

Shinkos are a decent deal. I've installed a few with no complaints from customers and if I build a Dirtster from spare Evo parts I'll use them for that.

My Shovels get Avons or Dunlops. Skip a few beers if you must and buy quality tires, and if you have spoked rims buy quality tubes since tubes rarely fail gracefully and you probably don't want to become a meat crayon!
