Default 1914 Dodge City 300, Harley's first attempt at racing

The Dodge City 300 was a big name in motorcycle racing, it was even called the Indianapolis of motorcycle racing. In it's inaugural year, Harley-Davidson entered the race at the last minute. This was the first time that a Harley-Davidson factory backed team had participated in a nationally sanctioned race.

Nice!!! Yeah the Dodge City racers had some experimental top ends, put the spark plug directly over the pistion!!! They melted..

Then H-D put them back in the valve pocket......

Was many years before spark pluggs could take the heat....
