Default Convince me to chop/not chop my shovel

Hey all,
I recently picked up a 79 FXEF80 dressed as an FLH and imported it into Australia. As you are probably aware old Harleys or actually any Harleys for that matter are ridiculously expensive here in Australia. Anyway, I've wanted a shovel for a long time and I've finally got one.

I originally had planned to hard tail the bike using one of fab kevins kits but am now in 2 minds as to whether I should chop the bike considering it's such a nice original frame with matching numbers and would likely be worth more in future in it's original state. Mind you, I much prefer the look of rigid bikes.

In Australia it's not worth the nightmare involved in trying to register an aftermarket frame. I have looked into the V-Twin replicas and it would be perfect but I would be looking at upwards of $4k in engineering costs to get it on the road legally.

So to my question, should I chop it? Is the bike left in original state really going to be worth that much extra than if i was to chop it? If I chop the rear section off cleanly is it an option for it to be re-attached in the future if I ever wanted to switch back for whatever reason...

Haha, yeah if it was an Evo I wouldn't hesitate. Nor have I hesitated chopping any of my jap bikes. I had considered maybe importing a separate frame to chop but that's still going to cost me around $3k to do.

If it was me...Nah...I wouldn't ...period.
but, if yer wondering...look at the classifieds, or even Fleabay...do an honest assessment of what Choppers/bobbers/stock survivors are bringing...Not asking...Selling
Bet ya find an abandoned "project" that is dying to be "finished".

doesn't matter what it's worth, does it, in the end?

make the bike into what you want it to be more than anything else.

You see that Many Survivor Shovels where you are???
VS how many "Bobbers"????? How about Halfassed Choppers?
If you can do it Properly ..and it ends up What you want...Cool.
But, look how many just Don't turn out that way!!!!!

I'm gonna stick to "please Chop it up, Makes the Survivors worth that much More"
