Default About the tool box bracket on Panhead frames

hi guys

i am actually looking for buying a 52 Panhead. The seller says it is original frame , and i am waiting the pics of forging numbers.but I have noticed i could not see on the frame the usual welded tool box bracket welded between the upper and lower parts on the rigid frame; Who can tell me when that bracket disappeared , just to to be changed for the smaller one only welded on the lower part of the frame? thanks

1952 used the smaller bracket that you're describing.

Not trying to push anything with this, but you might benefit greatly from having a copy of the third edition of Palmer's "How to Restore Your Harley-Davidson":

The new-for-52 toolbox bracket was recorded on at least one Harley drawing and the copy I have is dated 8-22-51. Hereís a close-up of the bracket from that drawing.

Also introduced for 52 models was a new top engine mount but if itís a real 52 frame then the top mount wonít have a date code. The date code came later and its addition was recorded on the drawing on 1-5-53.

Something else to check for 52 is the front engine mount. It may have been unique to that model year although itís possible some late-51s also had it. (As of 53 the front mount changed again.)
