Bobbers, bobbers, bobbers- choppers, choppers, choppers! Don't get me wrong; I run a bobber myself but there is a world of other bikes out there that are the coolest fuckin things in the world.
Like for instance the trackmaster in this months Dice- I defy anyone to tell me that isnt the coolest bike. I only bought my Triumph cos I saw one that was trying to be a trackmaster and then the guy who owned that bike went and bought himself a real trackmaster- what a beast. So show me your flat trackers and desert racers. |

My Modern ride that I sold last year:
![]() A vintage Champion "in the nude": (for sale) ![]() A bultaco I used to have: ![]() I'll see if I can take some pic's of some others I have hanging around here. I got a few, including a HD MX250-based bike that belonged to an Ex-GNC #1 plate rider. This bike isn't mine, but I'm trying to find a decent early Sportster to build a replica: ![]() I've given up in ever finding one of these: ![]() Last edited by racer32; 12-06-2007 at 03:15 PM. Not mine, but I like the layout. Racer32, what brand/size front tire is that on your Bultaco? Dragon, are they the same as the one on your BSA pic?

Likewise, I covet the Triumph Bonneville TT Specials...factory no-lighting hotrods, most became desert sleds.

Trackmaster Triumph. I built this for a customer almost 15 years ago. We have seen several imitations over the years. I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Still a very cool bike, Don |

I just looked. It was on the cover of Old Bike Journal magazine October '97. It was shot 4-5 months before that and the bike was done almost a year before the bike, photographer (Jeff Hackett) the weather and myself could get in one place at the same time. So more like 12 years ago.
We did use the same shot in our catalog www.metroracing.com web site and some advertising over the years. Don |

This one is currently under resto. Hopefully to be done in time for Mid Ohio Vintage days, Triumph mark. It's Don Castro's Factory Red Line framed 750cc Triumph with the Tracy Fiberglass works body work that was banned by the AMA at San Jose 1/2 mile in 1972.
$$$$$$$ Reward for anyone getting me any color pix of this bike. I have a lot of black and whites, but will concider any Castro pic from '71-'72 Don |

Not vintage, but it's a great street-legal hybrid of both flat track and desert bike that would be ass loads of fun on the street and reasonably cheap to build. Imagine tear-assing around in a pack of these!

![]() ![]() This is a 500 that was racing in Perris a while ago. The owner Lenny said he built it for under $2500. Check out the K&N breathers on the rocker caps. ![]() This is Joe Pape's 53 KR...dual plug heads with dual mags, and no brakes. Fun. The Triumph is a 66 bonneville Jack Hatley built...currently owned by Yaniv at powerplant in LA. I rode all of these and it made me wanna build something... ![]() |

It's a Honda XR650 (or 600?) desert bike with different forks, custom subframe, lowered rear shock or dog bones, tank, seat pan, etc. I don't think the actual frame was modified, but it's also not finished in this pic. I don't know much about it, but I know you can find the "L" for "Legal" models on CL once in a while for 2k or so depending on how hammered it is. Probably cheaper outside of CA. The design hasn't changed in a long time on these bikes and there is lots of aftermarket support on the mods so engine parts and tuning stuff is real easy to come by. They are known to be workhorse motors and routinely run 100mph plus in baja all day, so on the street... Can you tell I'm in love with it too?! I'm sure there are ADV riders on here who could tell you lots more about them.

yea, Doug. That is a Sam bass K2F magneto conversion on the unit cases. Kinda tricky and pretty rare. I have another set of cases back here that one day will be a chopper with a K2F or a Joe hunt.

interesting opinion on dirtbike era. I agee...ever since my friend got a monoshock back in good ol 75' while i rode a regular elsinore..I knew i'd never plant both feet on the ground again and the end of my dirt career.

As if by magic, after I this thread went quiet, I stumbled upon a link that took me to the coolest magazine dedicated to flat trackers- Sideburn. It even has a spread on Jay Springsteen. Anyone who was into this thread check the mag out
http://www.sideburnmagazine.com/WELCOME%20x.html I haven't even opened my copy of Dice yet cos I'm still reading Sideburn |

That's a cruel irony NEX, that your pic has a "tiny pic" url and it's twice as big as the screen.

You need to resize the pix first.
Or, if you'll use Photobucket they have a resizing option built-in. See the last of the pic-posting thread on the Questions board. Never pay again for live sex! | Hot girls doing naughty stuff for free! | Chat for free! |

Someone got pic's on a certian old triumph saltracer?
I think the name of the owner of the bike was Joe Buffardi, and it appeard in a swedish magazine called Gasoline. Red frame and just two pipes as fueltank. Think it was a '66.

That's a Bultaco Sherpa T. "T" as in TRIALS...The suspension and steering geometry of that bike are for going slow and climbing straight up, not sliding sideways on a flattrack at speed. BE CAREFUL!!!

I absolutely love the sleek lines of these tanks. I want one. What am I looking for? I've searched eBay under "flat track" "dirt track" "board track" "track" - and multiple variations all with no luck. Surely, it's just I'm not using the right name for this style of tank...
A little help?

This is my one BSA I found in guys basement that sat for 20 years. The tank was already on it. But with the Ceriani's, bobbed fender, stripped down, and bars I thought it gave a street tracker appeal kind of. Damn thing kicked over on its fifth kick after those 20 years. Sat in storage the last few years, but I pulled it a few weeks ago, put a lightning tank on it, rewired and am making a new seat and rearsets for it right now.

Here's my 1972 Bultaco Astro 360cc custom street tracker (soon it will have a late 60's vintage Mercurio tank painted with the later Astro dots-and-dashes scheme).

I found this last night in a box of old family photos. An uncle and his slightly customed 1966 Triumph 650 Bonneville TT Special. The picture was taken some time in 1967 when he was 19 or 20. Being his only transportation at the time, he commuted during the week and raced it on the weekends, sometimes drag racing it on alcohol. He still has the bike.

Welcome. Now that's an intro! Awesome pics, but they're kinda small. Very cool though.

Saw your post on HAMB and thought I'd stop back here and see what the response was. I went to all the Ohio races in the mid to late 60's. A friend of mine was Ohio # 38F expert. I was sort of a crew chief for him. I visited your website and it brought back a lot of memories. Cool pics!

Very cool stuff Thunderplex,
Just last night I was at a friend's house digging through his huge collection of old magazines and race programs from Castle Rock, Sidewinders, and other tracks here in the NW. Thanks for making all those photos available. Good stuff.

nice! They used to have flat track racing here in the early 80's. We would flat track race our three wheelers and the main attraction was the flat trackers at the end of the night. It was a small track and there were always lots of wrecks.

My boyhood hero was "Super Fred" Smith. He raced Yamahas and Triumphs for my Dad's shop, then got a factory ride with H-D in the early to mid 70's (national plate 42). I'd love to find any and all old pics.

Joe. Here's one of your old subjects (Jay Springsteen) on my wkr Big Horn Kawasaki. I have Woody Kyle's bike that Jay Ridgeway, Jeff Purvis and Ed Salley rode, here for a resto. I seen some small pix of Ridgeway on your site. Do you have any bigger, or more pix I could use to help with the resto.
The other pic is of Don Castro's factory Triumph that I just restored. Any other pix of Don on the Triumph would be cool too. Thanks,Don Miller www.metroracing.com ![]() ![]() |

It's a slightly modified 1971 BSA/Triumph OIF chassis. And it looks real good.

The old Good Year DTII's/Dunlops handel just fine on the street. They just tend to wear a little quicker than a street tire. Get the harder compound "8's" and you'll be fine.

Absolutely the coolest flat tracker ever built. This bike was built by Ron Woods (not the guitarist in The Stones!) and various forms of it were ridden by Alex Jorgenson, Jody Nicholas, Rob Morrison and Dave Aldana. This was the last iteration ridden by Jorgeson. Note the notched front down tube/oil tank. I love this bike.

Hi, 66 triumph,
This is a mid sixties Sportster XLRTT racer, mag in front of engine, owned by a guy called Marsh. A bit special in that it's fitted with a rare set of 60's alloy factory heads based on the iron ones castings. Here's the guy with his other ride, a KRTT in the same lines: Patrick
