1", they are that size to fit my old style dog bones.

Re: Tech. - How to use a file

To add to the thought on file storage:
I took a small sheet of 1/4" plywood, cut to fit in a part of the tool box.
Drive medium size nails next to a file-on edge- to be a divider. Now, next file,...

Re: Motorcycle VIN inspections

Just to be clear: the MC was in Oregon, in my name, I moved it to Ca.
The VIN inspection was for the Ca. DMV.

Re: Motorcycle VIN inspections

Just a note for all who have an interest.

I just got a licence plate and registration back from a guy who can do vin number verification on motorcycles. He charges for his services.

They don't...

Motorcycle VIN inspections

I am looking for someone who has had a good experience, and fairly recently had a VIN inspection done by a CHP.
I have a fairly original looking knucklehead motorcycle that was registered in Oregon....

Re: front master cylinder quesion

Think of the relative bore size bore of the master and slave.
If you run an 11/16" bore master cylinder, you will have to apply more force to brake than if you're running a 12mm bore m/c. (I could...

Re: Valve cover air leak

Put pressure through the intake.
There is end gap in the rings. Air goes by, just a bit.
The crank case is pressurized.
The valve cover leaks.

I looked for this in others posts.
Am I missing...

Re: What could be cause these grooves on a break disc

When I've seen brakes dragging, it's often an old flexable brake line.
The hose closes up, and will pass fluild to the caliper and hold it.
The other thing to look at is a tiny hole in the master...

Re: dog bones just a hair too big

Or, get some thicker shim stock. Brass was my first thought.
Aluminum, steel would work.
Cut to width of bones, length to go around.

Re: What am I not understanding to fire a plug on the bench?

I test a coil with an old vw distributor.
This works as a switch (points) AND adds the condenser into the deal.
Hook it in series with the coil, and spin the dist.

Re: Panhead aluminum pushrod tubes, what year? TT?

My (once) all original 1952 FL has aluminum lifter blocks and steel tubes.
VTwin lists application for tubes as 1948-1965.

Don't think that this explains all, but- trying!

Re: Cracked rear left motor mount hole

In my opinion, DO NOT USE LOCTITE.

It has no tenstile strength, does not glue this together.
It may get in the way of welding, should you decide to repair it...
Which I would not do on my own...

Re: oil leak / m74 linkert ?

I noticed a mention of whether the rear carb was level.
It may be that the effective float level would change if it's tilted, any direction.
My thought is that a tilt could cause a lean condition....

Re: 2 brush generator with look alike regularor

Just to be real clear.
What I think I have is a 32-1341 V-Twinn "Look-A-Like" 12 relay.
"Electronic design will work with 2 brush generators"
It's on page 700, V-Twinn catalog.
It was purchased...

2 brush generator with look alike regularor

I have a 65a generator that I hooked up on the 1942 FL project.

In the past, I have tested old Ford generators by motoring them.
This is hooking them up to a battery so they will spin as a...

Re: V-Twin cylinders

I don't have originals. The ones that came from the collection of parts were for an EL. And, by the way, sleeves would leave little of the original casting thickness on the bottom, my concern would...

1942 FL throttle/ circuit breaker cable routing

My project is a 1942 FL set of cases, with a collection of swap parts. I am going for an original look.

I've been looking for a source to tell how original handlebar controls route.
(Throttle and...
