Re: New in MN

Welcome, from a fellow Minnesnowtan. Ya, it is a little early this year for a snowfall. I too consider myself lucky to have a good shop and plenty of two wheel projects to help keep my head straight,...

Re: Eye on an Amen. Is it?

Amen spring boxes for sure, but I don't think the rest of it is. Amen lower cradle would be narrower for an ironhead, most, but not all had a square seat post, front down tubes are longer than I have...

Re: Linkert DC Air Cleaner Options

Actually, the choke assembly is sandwiched between the carb and backing plate, and the backing plate has the provisions for the ball and spring for the detent to hold the choke open or closed, also...

Re: 57 Ironhead sportster clutch trouble

I believe the '52-53 K models used a five disk clutch basket.

Re: parts to rebuild 33.4 ?

Ya, $100 is a lot, I have collected a few sets when I find them cheap on Ebay. Very clear pictures and instructions for rebuild in the sporty service manual, but I think the bushing surface should be...

Re: parts to rebuild 33.4 ?

I have always thought it odd that they are called "33.4mm" tubes. I believe they are 1-5/16 inch in diameter. The metric system was virtually unheard of in the '50's in the U.S. when they were...

Re: Triumph fork gaiters for 33.4mm HD forks?

I have them on a bike in a past thread. Do a search and type in "anti-chopper". It should show up.

Re: Triumph fork gaiters for 33.4mm HD forks?

Conversely, I have used the -54 Harley gaiters flipped up side down for '71 and up Triumph front ends. The big end stretches over the lowers and fits snug, the top required a thin spacer made from a...

Re: 1 owner! Barn find Panhead!!!!

So, the zombies must have got Mr. Zombie. No word from him. The original post said he didn't know where to start. That's obvious, because he hasn't.

Re: The great 45 Transmission contravisty

Well, yes along with the cluster gear. I took an electric start trans and added the above mentioned parts and now have electric and kick start on my servi.

Re: Donnie Smith Show

I went to the show on Sunday. Thought there were a few less bikes this year maybe. The car show part was actually OK. Some nice chops and customs, the blue '65 Pan was very nice. But wayyyy to many...

Re: Fired Up After Sittin For Years

Everybody says at some point, gee I wish I'd kept this or that. And everybody's got their "keeper". What's your "keeper"? Wish I'd kept my knuckle chop too, but I sure wouldn't trade it for my...

Re: Should I Trade My Ironhead For A Flathead?

To me it's a no brainier. Make the trade, take the $1500 and go buy another sporty. Take the 45, part it out, flip it, or keep it, any way you look at it, your money ahead.

Re: Would you run this?!!! LOL!!!

I recently had a set of '57 XL cases repaired by that company. My local bike shop sent them to Advance Cycle Machine and they came back great, can hardly even see where they were repaired. Most...

Re: sometimes it pays to lsiten in the darndest places

I have an elderly aquintence who before the war rode a Harley VL, said he couldn't keep up to the new knuckles, but would always win a race against an Indian. He told me one day about a riding buddy...

Re: Triumph Trike a '70s time piece of eye candy

Independent rear suspension looks as if all hand made. Looks as if it would go down the road with very little work. Is the guy that built it still around? Looks amazing, I'd like to take it for a...

Re: Ugly and Funny Bikes... the "Short Bus" of pic threads..

I think that considering the Henderson streamliner was built over 75 years ago, it's an amazing accomplishment. Art-deco styling in the highest degree. Looks kind of timeless to me. It might look...

Re: 1965 XLCH rebuild

My old '59 XLCH only hit me back once, and it was my own fault ( limped on my right leg for a month). Magneto sportys do not take kindly to poor tune. Anyone who calls them girls bikes have never...

Re: New Guy in MN

Welcome, interesting place here, I'm sure you'll enjoy it here. I'm near Hutchinson, just a few miles away, does your shop have a name? Post up some pics of your paint work for us to see.

Re: 1965 XLCH rebuild

Give it some serious thought before you tear into it to far. An old hot rod ironhead can be a blast, but as was said, today's gas, starting issues, dependability and such are not for for the timid....

Re: 78 Shovel barn find

I had a '78 1/2 King of the Highway 75th anniversary edition. She was as good as it got in the day. I kind of miss the old girl. I think the anniversary editions only came in a maroon or cream...

Re: Little Triumph I just wrapped up.

Nice to see something a little different for once. The rear frame section looks interesting. Looks like stainless exhaust also. Tasteful and clean. Give us a bit more info please.

Re: Adds

Ya, but home decorating and furniture stuff? Those little pottery and glass containers would look way cool on my work bench! Not.
