Re: 68 Shovelhead frame, front end, oil tank, tanks, misc parts

Re the date code, the first character is 0 (zero) and indicates the year. The letter indicates the month: A thru L indicated Jan thru Dec. (The letter I was not skipped in frame date codes.)

In...

Re: 74 XLCH-1000 chopper

Near the first portion of the belly number do I see a shiny area? Is there any sign that something else was stamped there? In the 70s some belly numbers were not done properly at the factory and a...

Re: 74 XLCH-1000 chopper

You're welcome. For 1974 Sportsters I'd expect both belly numbers to be under the cases. The left belly number didnít go in the primary area until 1975 models.

Your frame VIN is interesting,...

Re: 46 U Bullneck Frame Question

If the engine is 46 (?), Iím curious if itís early, mid or late? (Some late-46s had 47 BNs.)

What happened to the back...

Re: 74 XLCH-1000 chopper

As you discovered, 4A indicates XLCH Sportster. At first they were approx 900cc but became approx 1000cc as of 1972 (?) models.
Kickstart Sportsters and electric start Sportsters had their engine...

Re: Panhead VIN help...FLP???

Welcome to the forum. I agree the SN doesnít look consistent with factory stamping. Iíve heard stories before about some Panhead SNs having P to indicate police and my photo collection contains a few...

H-D blueprint for 1954 Panhead frame changes

Iím chasing a Harley blueprint regarding the three frames used for 1954 Panheads and apparently the blueprint indicates when the changes occurred: first wishbone to second wishbone and then straight...

Re: Engine Numbers

On CAI in 2015 I told Chris about six VAM case numbers in particular that may be non-factory but were not described as such. After reading my post he labelled two of them as Ďbogusí on VAM. The other...

Re: Engine Numbers

Please approach VAM case numbers with caution because some that are not consistent with factory stamping for the year and/or model concerned are not described as such. For example: 39EL1414 (page 2);...

Re: About the tool box bracket on Panhead frames

The new-for-52 toolbox bracket was recorded on at least one Harley drawing and the copy I have is dated 8-22-51. Hereís a close-up of the bracket from that drawing.

Re: 57 Pan Cases. Good Numbers?

Inside the left case should be casting number 24541 55 and a circled E. According to Palmerís 37Ė64 SE (2014) the hallmark represented Eck Industries. (Recently Palmer published a 36Ė65 edition but I...

Re: 57 Pan Cases. Good Numbers?

SNs for 57 Pans began at 1001 and probably finished somewhere between 6000 and 7000. Title says 57FL40 so there should only be two more sequence characters. Also please check that no letter was...

Re: 41 el

Dave, does that frame have a date code? Some 53 models had them but others didnít. A photo of the front engine mount may help with ID because it changed as of 53 models.

I agree a new steering...
