Pushrod are the same but there are different tubes...Check the pushrod seat machined in the head,it's the depth of the hole is different on the various years..

I do hillbilly heatment a lot.... if it's good steel that will harden, heat the end bright red and plunge in oil... it will make smoke....Once cool, heat to about 400F, a straw color, let it cool...

Both times it was the pick up unit.....I believe it was a design fault, probably corrected...I have used several the the less expensive Surefire's on street Triumphs..They worked well enough but one...

I've had two failures of the expensive Pazon Smartfire on my race bike..It's a long slow trip and back to New Zealand for warranty work, something to think about...

Are you removing the ethanol then using the fuel in your bike? If so, removing the ethanol also removes a few octane points..Like turns 93 US octane into 90.....
You can still read plugs running...

I don't have back, knee or hip issues so kicking isn't a big deal if the bike will start on a reasonable amount of kicks..I'm a 6 foot skinny old guy

I would never install an electric starter on...

I was thinking about lower compression using pistons and or cam timing....It's not like I need every ounce of power for running down the rural back roads...So you might say that easy starting is...

I had a kick Shovel that would start one or two kicks...Sometimes...Otherwise it was an exhausting amount of kicks..A friend has an "original" Pan and it starts on one kick when warm....I can kick...

As in a properly tuned stock Panhead should start in one or two kicks ? I was looking at a Pan bobber for sale...The seller seemed to know how to kick it over,like 10 times on a 60F day to get it...

I picked up an 883 2001 Sportster a few months ago because it was bargain priced...Needed a few minor repairs but it runs well for what it is..The bike appears mosty original, shows 16,000 miles.

Well, some of this depends on the engine and bike, as in vibration felt by the rider...Overly tall gearing can invite engine pinging on grades...

If it runs well and doesn't ping, the mixture is probably ok. You can get an Otoscope or dedicated plug reading magnifier and look closely at the center insulator for dull black spots or the worse...

The spark plug shown in the first photo in this tread is not showing lean for an engine running with some load...Those old charts showing plug colors are no longer useful with modern fuels...
