Re: Sportster Wheel on 45" Flathead WL Solo

I ended up finding a correct, cherry oem chromed wheel and brake so I will not wade into the sportster wheel mess. Sounds like the gearing would be a pain anyway.

Thanks for the input.

"A Sportster rear sprocket is 10 teeth larger than a 45."

I did not realize that the sprocket was that much larger.

The larger brakes may not be worth the headache.

Tanks to everyone for...

Re: Sportster Wheel on 45" Flathead WL Solo

I know stock sportster, which is 17mm, or the closest fractional equivalent 11/16. Thats 1/16 less than 3/4.

3/4 is stock for all the star hub on pan, knuckle and shovel. Just don't know about...

Re: Sportster Wheel on 45" Flathead WL Solo

That sounds good. Do you know what the stock WL axle Diameter is? I would have guessed 3/4 which is larger than the 17mm sportster stock axle?

Re: Sportster Wheel on 45" Flathead WL Solo

Pete:
That is promising, as the rear sprocket offset should be the same on disc wheel as it is on drum.

How did you deal with he rear axle? Is the Sportster axle the proper length and diameter,...

Re: Sportster Wheel on 45" Flathead WL Solo

Here is an example of a WL would look like with a hydraulic front fork installed, it is not clear what the rear brake configuration is, and I have no other images of this bike. This particular bike...

Sportster Wheel on 45" Flathead WL Solo

I have searched and found some discussion on the topic, but mostly guesses, and remarks from folks that clearly have no idea what they are talking about.

I have lots of wrench time on old big...
