Gents,

I guess he's tried that several times - same result. The gear pops off and no starter...

Is it possible that his compression is so high that the starter is put under too much stress? ...

I am trying to help a neighbor of mine with his chopper. It's powered by a RevTech and has a RevTech tranny - not sure of specifics here.

His issue: the bolt holding the bendix gear on keeps...

I've been on Deal's Gap/Tail of the Dragon and I cringe at the thought of what happened to you. Glad you were able to bounce back and ride again. Nice job on the bike too. I like sprung sporty's.
