Re: Changing fork oil on my 68.. what are these bits??

An oldtimer once reminded me that fork oil is not the oil to use in this fork. (Nuts, right?)

They were made for SAE 30, as that was what was available. A modern fork oil didn't exist when this...

Re: new lifters seem to have caused smoking cylinder

Solid advice there. I wouldn't be mucking with anything til that breather cavity was doing OK. Might be worth a call to S&S to talk about their reed breather. They used to recommend it for Shovels...

Re: Bike stalling at developing and idle sometimes?

Cool.

You motivated me to get my ass into the shop last night and pull out my iggy and clean the crap out of the cone and oil up the weights and re-time.

So thanks. Glad yours is sorted as...

Re: '76 harley 4 Speed oil level

Not every kicker cover has that hole. If you overfill 'em, the extra just slobbers out the vent.

Re: Bike stalling at developing and idle sometimes?

I don't think dual fire is the issue, but hey, whatever works. You're not limited by a kicker, so almost and EI is wide open.

Re: Panhead Electrical

This sounds maybe a bit familiar. I believe Jason did this before there was a fitment listed for this from Dynatek. I seem to remember he maybe machined a "backwards" points cam?

Whatever the...

Re: Panhead Electrical

McElroy did this at some point. I think he machined something extraneous, then figured out an easier way to do it. The challenge he faced, if I remember rightly, was that a dizzy and a cone shovel...

Still really cool to see. I hope Dan R. chimes in; he's recently worked on a bunch of those and knows a lot about them.

Re: Horseshoe tank + small 12V battery

I welded a flat plate to the bottom of the 'shoe on one of mine, then drilled two holes in the plate.

I then placed the battery in it, and made a cross bar for the top with two holes. I lined it...

Re: Earley Shovelhead gearing

That's a good point. Taller gears are fine for a stripped chopper, but for something still wearing all its garbage, shorter legs and limited top speeds is the way to go, IMO.

All my old stuff is...

Re: This is the designated "how much is it worth" thread.....

Re: Bike stalling at developing and idle sometimes?

Just for shits and grins, have we considered slapping an electronic ignition in here for like ten minutes just to see what happens?

I don't see a kicker in your video, so to me a Dyna S is not the...

Re: Bike stalling at developing and idle sometimes?

Two bad advance units sounds a little fishy to me. I see S&S recommends a slightly unorthodox timing method: https://www.sscycle.com/tech-info/tech-tips/ignition
