Re: Frisco-inspired Dyna FXDL short chop, modder

Bikes looks great!!!.... but I've gotta agree with the others about the sissy bar. It's so tall, it's just distracting from the nice lines of the bike. On another note, I think that bike would look...

Re: Ironhead Cam Performance Opinion

A big gain up to 5200 rpm. Looking at the way you merged the pipes, I would not have expected it. I wonder what your results would be with a 2 into 2 system of equal length, with good mufflers and...

Re: Ironhead Cam Performance Opinion

I have never understood why anyone would want a hot cam in any harley. To me, the entire point of an HD engine, is instant off-idle torque, in an engine that's main attribute, is that it's much...

Re: Ugly and Funny Bikes... the "Short Bus" of pic threads..

"I've got a pony and an erector set". I wonder if he gets hate mail through the ad? Hope so.

Re: Ugly and Funny Bikes... the "Short Bus" of pic threads..

Look at what he did with the rear shock mounts! That whole bike came out of Bozo's ass.

Re: Ugly and Funny Bikes... the "Short Bus" of pic threads..

The ugliest thing I have seen in a very long time.

Re: short ironhead exhaust question

You are no doubt losing a ton of power running those.

Re: advice on paint needed, strip or sand?

There's a reason you won't find any reputable custom painters who will build on an unknown foundation.

If you're going to invest either the time or the money, into a metal-flake paint job, you...

Re: Ugly and Funny Bikes... the "Short Bus" of pic threads..

Aside from looking like a diseased banana, I guess this guy thought his over 45 degrees of rake just wasn't providing enough trail , so he installed some Hatta fork sliders with the axle trailing...

Re: will this welder make do

That is obviously one of those TIG welds with no penetration I was saying it's possible to do with a TIG. A MIG weld that cold would be very obviously flawed in appearance before it broke: You can...

Re: will this welder make do

As Nigel said above, tacking with flux-core, will screw with your TIG guy. If you have shielded MIG, fine, but I wouldn't recommend it otherwise.

Re: will this welder make do

NASCAR requires it's chassis to be MIG, and not TIG welded. They require this because unlike with MIG welding, it's far easier to make a very pretty TIG weld that's unsound than it is with a MIG,...

Re: Perfect Rake?

I don't know of any racing bike that used anywhere near that much rake, unless you're talking about drag racing.

Re: Perfect Rake?

If you go past 42 degrees, "flop" starts entering the picture. Flop is not dangerous, but it will make you put more effort into steering at low speeds. As another poster said, telescopic forks start...

Pretty much anything made by Rickman bros. "Desirable" covers a lot of ground.

Re: first complete build - 80 ironhead

I'm trying to figure out WTF the deal is with this frame. By the looks of it, it's a pre-79 frame, but with a 79 and later swing arm.

Re: Ever run a bike with a bent frame?

Break out the lazer and come along and straighten it out. No, never ridden on a bent frame. Wouldn't care to try.

Re: New Handlerbars and an hour in the garage...

I like the bars, I have a set myself that I had on my chop. It's not that they don't look good, it's just that the bike is such a period piece, and those exact bars weren't around. But comfort is...

Re: Brazing before TIG?

A seat hinge mount is probably OK. But a kickstand mount stakes a shit load of lateral stress. Like I said, it's not simple. Every joint has different type of loads, and different amount of weld...

Re: Triumph Picture Thread

Wow man, that thing RULES, glad to see you got another bike. I'm pretty sure I saw that scoot on a blog a couple of months back. The only thing I would change, is that seat mounting. I think those...

Re: Brazing before TIG?

A kick stand mount on an HD is not a part I would braze. The strength of a braze joint is highly dependent on the design of the joint. A kick-stand mount tab, should be mig or tig welded on both...

Re: Triumph Picture Thread

I guess one can not help but admire (or pity) that engine. That thing is truly fugly. There isn't one part other than that engine that doesn't belong at the bottom of the the bay behind it. Just...

Re: Brazing before TIG?

Two completely incompatible processes. Running into brass, even a tiny amount, while welding is the bane of any welder. You vaporize the brass, and turn the steel into a fucking sponge if you try...

Re: Reverse Flow?

All true, but remember, even if you don't create positive pressure, reducing negative pressure will still be seen by the motor as lowered restriction, and give you some free HP

I had a 70 GTO I...
