it comes down to what grit was used on the bores - and what style piston ring and the piston to wall clearance - for brake in miles

when the engine finally is broke in it will need a fine sweet...

its a fine adjustment from this spot we use a gray marker and an adjacent on the body - then only 3 clicks on the main screw at a time - see the plugs dark 3 lean ( in ) see them white 3 rich ( out )...

its all about a true experience of having done what you did - and now the knowing it was the intake all along - will give you the ability to go after something like this again with a much more open...

you may need to loosen the jugs as well all 4 pieces being turned to straighten is a normal thing

then when you tighten they do pull in a little bit more on the manifold gap just so you know

while we have had good luck with hylomar in the past I dont recommend what we use in the shop now because its 50 US dollars for a tube 1 .75 oz

what type of sealant did you use - dry they all leak

NOW the spickets have a tool from colony so you can install tight over size threaded spickets - OS spicket # 2995-1 its each and fits 1940...

joe that's an EL timing

the FL is the same as all over head 74 inch

the timing to the back of the hole re corrects worn parts - bushings - gear to gear kind of thing but its a temporary...

we only use 4 to 5 pounds of pressure in the intake checking - because too much air can actually re configure the intake seals and stop a normal leak - then we use dish washing soap in a spray...

walk the timing line to the rear 1/2 way of the hole edge - drive it and see if its better we are looking for improvement first - if you can tell its better - you can walk it to the edge of the hole...
