My experience:
Powder coat is very much more durable than paint. However, in the climate where I live, with wet and snow and salt on the roads, if there is a damage, the rust will start to form...

The distributor tells me it is a chinese engine, I think they refined the ignition system when they got the design from the russians...
Otherwise almost the same design, BMW R71, Soviet m71 and CJ...

Some info about the engine.

Crank case:
Right case:1957 original H-D.
Left:California Products aftermarket.
Crank: -72 to-81 H-D
Rods: Harley original
Generator cover: -55 to -57...

An ignitions system with points needs a coil with higher resistance compared to an electronic system that most often uses a lower resistance coil.

Sorry, I didn’t tell the whole story. The thing is that the left crank case is aftermarket (California products) and the engine mount surface is not level, there is a step.
I want to machine this...

I finally found the time to test fit the crank case in the frame. The case was bolted down in the aft motor mount. A big gap then showed itself in the front
