Just to chime in - the clutch pull on my '74 isn't anything special, so you're right in assuming something is wrong. Bike looks great, hope the new cable gets you on the road!

No idea if/how the linkage would work on a modern sporty, but switch to right side shift and screw the rear brake.

Looks good to me. The HIH gave me some problems with axle width, and the plates are indeed huge, but it worked out well for my bike.

It's the nature of the beast, so to speak.

What oil are you running? Using heavier single-weight oil (as specified in the manual) can quiet it down a bit if you're running modern multi-weight....

Voltage at the battery should be in the mid 14s when charging, 17 is too high, 30 is much too high. I believe the generator will put out around 30V unregulated, so it's possible the regulator isn't...
