Re: Plating in a neck correctly

If you feel you must protect the inside of your tubing I would recommend filling the frame with a rust encapsulator like Por-15. Let it sit a little and the drain out the paint and you should be good...

Re: Confused about brake drums

Australia is still in Covid fever and the Fedex shipping from WW to Aus is limited to express freight minimum $135. A little pricey for spacers.
Since the rigid frame is narrower than the round...

Re: The Toad... '78 Shovelhead

Very nice Fred. You are right making swingarms and fenders look good is hard. Can we see more of the scooter in the background please?

Re: Disk Brake Conversion on Wishbone Frame

I find the last shop dope paragraph about brake relining and adjusting very interesting. Loosen the pivot and applying full pressure? I never thought of that.
Thank you Eric. Great contribution as...

Re: Disk Brake Conversion on Wishbone Frame

The axles are the same except for the head. I'm kinda partial to the earlier head just because it is so different antique looking.

Re: Disk Brake Conversion on Wishbone Frame

Fredo, just because it is Paughco doesn't mean it's perfect. I have a brand new brake rod and clevis I will give you for free. Just don't ask where it was made. It's W&W but....
Regarding your...

Re: Disk Brake Conversion on Wishbone Frame

Just for Ratso's amusement W&W makes a hydraulic front drum brake for knucklehead springers.

Re: A quality Bates-type headlight

I'm late to the party but Paughco is still the bates-iest light on the market. Especially the one where the bracket is riveted to the outside. Heavy gauge shell perfect looks. They are a copy of the...

Re: Forks

Hmm, I am of a different opinion. A stock 41mm uses slugs. They are short and called fork tube plugs. Making longer versions of those gave rise to the slug as cheap way to extend forks. A two inch...

Re: Cheap tires?

Cheng-shin makes a 4.00-18 tire that looks like an old Dunlop Trials Universal from the 1960s that isn't made any more. It looks great on my desert Sled Triumph that I do not intend to ride ever...

Re: The designated springer ID thread

Many good points Liam. But to me Dick Allen was a craftsman with fabrication skills and engineering understanding. There is something you either have or don't have.
I call it the "Eye". Dick had it....

Re: The designated springer ID thread

Definitively not a Dick Allen. The spring cross brace on the front leg is way too big and the spring rest on the rear legs too thin. The trees top and bottom look like denvers but aren't. Most...

Re: Fork Pinch Bolts Not Holding

A very common problem that is easily rectified. The slots in the lower triple tree are too short due to the way they are machined. All you have to do is run a hacksaw in the slot until the top and...

Re: '63 Swingarm Pan frame question..

Amazing as most of the parts Wasco sells are from V-twin. He even uses parts of the V-twin number as his own order number :)

Re: 1951 Panhead build thread

In engineering school back in the fatherland they showed us gruesome pics of long hair caught in the drill press etc. One showed a poor guy whose lathe had the on/off switch down low on the left and...

Re: VL fork question posted for flatman. "calling on Von Wegener "

He is correct on the part numbers. L44610 is the race that fits the Harley neck cup. It is standard on all big twins since 1949. The L44459 would fit the VL 1-1/8" stem and matches the race in...

Re: Midstar rear brake question/identification

Assuming you have the '63-'72 backing plate with the big lip around it have you backed off the adjusters? If they are all the way out and your new drum is unused that could be the problem right there.

Re: Trying to find info on an old blog and this motorshop frame bike

I'm always amazed how a few modifications change the look of a bike. The original bike looks perfect whereas the newer version is just soso and does not display the cool features of the original....

Re: Hallcraft mini disc hub bearing replacement

Yes that cover on the non disc side is crimped on. In fact I had never seen one until your picture. I guess they cannot be removed without harming them hence the missing cover on used swapmeet parts....
