The factory manual says to use kerosene to clean everything. I imagine back then they also recommended disposing of it in your back yard.... is there any reason not to use Simple Green or something...

I had a legit shop build me a custom frame and they shipped it UPS with no packing, just a label stuck to the downtube. The neck was damaged in transit, looked like they had lifted it 20' in the air...

True, but there is more to it than that. Anyone who has put too large a MC on and gotten wooden lever feel, or too small a MC and had the lever bottom out before getting adequate brake pressure knows...

That's a 14mm bore. The other one was a 5/8" bore (early single caliper setup). As stated above, 9/16 was the stock size from HD for a late single caliper.
14mm = .551"
9/16" = .563"
5/8" = .625"...
