Re: Gas Tank ID Help

Just for reference - here's a comparison of the Daisho vs. the Wassell. They're a little different shape, which you can see better from the back.

Re: It's been too long. Back to building.

I dig em both. Is that a 15" front wheel on the black bike?

Re: Advice needed - switching new to old fork tubes

Ha ha - a little confused. Ok, the dampner in the old tube is about 1.5" longer than the dampner in the new tube. The old tubes are about 10 over, so not comprable.

I plan to use the correct stuff...

Re: Advice needed - switching new to old fork tubes

Ok thanks guys - just to be clear, to match the stance with the newer tubes mocked on I'll need to order +2" tubes...so a 24" long '49-'77 tube will be about the same?

And thanks for the concern -...

Advice needed - switching new to old fork tubes

Hey guys -

I have my build mocked up using, what I believe, are newer tubes from somewhere around late 90's Fat Boy. I got them as a complete front end with disc brakes and pulled the tubes and...

Re: The Black Swan

Ok - just a few updates.

I started working on the mock-up of the sissy bar. Because it's going to be pretty tall and will have an ornamental top, I thought it would be better to add a second bar...

Re: Turning down steering stem?

I just learned that the HD factory stems are a press fit, however the aftermarket trees I'm using on my build don't have a taper for a press fit.

I can't see any issues in removing the step and...

Re: The Black Swan

They look to use the standard 49-76 41mm tubes with oil to dampen.

The tubes I got with them were roached, so I mocked them up with Fat Boy tubes to get a feel for height. The Fat Boy tubes have a...

Re: My first build... the post-Pre-unit.

These are awesome - they look like the '49 only fork tube caps. I'm running a similar set on my build and had planned to make some fasteners
to compliment them.

Did you turn those?

Re: The Black Swan

Yeah, either Barney's or Chicago Cycle Specialties. Maybe a few others made or distributed them...not quite sure how to ID to a maker. No markings on them.

I was a little nervous they'd not work...

Re: The Black Swan

Yeah - I think the short effect is increased with the extreme height.

Thanks guys!

Hoghead - We'll have to see once I start to get the final components on.

Hank - That's interesting. Picked...

Re: The Black Swan

Spent a lot of time cutting and filing, so I cobbled it back together and added some more stuff so that I could start thinking more seriously about the sissy bar and the gas tank.

Here are some...

Re: Pardon my ignorance. Delkron Case Generator Shovel.

First question I would ask is how is it titled? I would assume as an '81 Lowrider.

Those are good components and should be reliable as long as it was assembled correctly. I've never worked with...

Re: The Black Swan

Thanks Bill

I must be getting fat and lazy because I spent a long couple hours with a hacksaw and files taking off the fat bob mounts and the speedo mount and it wore me out. The wife was napping...

Re: Tripping, a bike toss together for such an occasion.

Such great stuff in this thread!

Both bikes are awesome, and a killer story line to go with it.

Re: The Black Swan

Thanks guys - I had it similar to Terd's build, but I think I'll like it better long-term and won't redo it down the road if I keep a little tilt.

I am curious to see how the pipes sound.
