Re: I need a carb that doesn't make me question my sanity

My carb experience with 74" mag fired kick only shovel:

Dual mikuni VM34s - I didn't like this setup to keep it more than a thousand or so miles. Constant tinkering, like an adjustment at every...

Re: Shovelhead bent pushrods, blowing oil, what's up?

Thanks for the replies fellas. I got the heads pulled last night and here's what I found:

Re: very odd issue with fxs not responding to throttle

I doubt it's the oil in the primary - if there was a condition where the plates were sticking the bike would likely lurch w the clutch pulled in and would be difficult to shift.

Plugs probably...

Re: very odd issue with fxs not responding to throttle

I had a similar issue - bike ran fine but would break up under throttle. Was unusual because it was fine and then the problem appeared - traced it to a loose ground. Was making enough power to keep...

Re: Front end fork stop question

Just need to drill and tap your lower tree for the second piece. You'll want to remove the stem if you can.

Re: making a brake anchor tab for juice drum

That's the standard way of fabbing a mechanical axle plate to work well w the juice....you'll probably need to fab a spacer to fit between the anchor stud and backing plate.

Re: My Shovelhead is ticking when NOT running

Ya sounds like the valve is hanging up when it's opening and ticking as it slowly closes back up.

Re: Shovelhead and primary belts - part deux of the story

Certainly sounds like a shim issue to me...

I had to use shims trans to plate as well as plate to frame to get it to sit square.

Motor required some too...

What are you shimming with?

I'd...

Come on Joe, this is civil discourse, not tit for tat. I suggest not even bothering replying if you're just going to tell us we're all wrong. There was more to my brake pedal situation than lever...

Re: Springer rocker slop fix?

To clarify, the bronze bushings in the rockers themselves and the pivot fit is acceptable. Those don't have any excessive slop - it's the holes in the bottom of each leg lug that have worn.

The...

Re: Springer rocker slop fix?

That is an idea I also entertained - but I'm afraid I may be a bit too limited on material at the lug to drill for a sleeve. Going oversize to 5/8" from 1/2" is probably the most I'd feel safe...

Re: Springer rocker slop fix?

This particular springer uses bronze bushings in the rockers. When I had this apart last year the bushings felt tight and I have only put a couple hundred miles on it since. Either way I can press...
