you could have a bad intake leak at the head ....but that wouldnt explain the low compression .....very hard to diagnose ....keep at it .....

a friend of mine just had a simular problem .....it ended up to be the float adjustment took a shit ....he was running a linkert and the float tab was so loose that no gas was in the bowl

hey Dutch , I basically did the same mod on my 65 kick only . I used after market tin primaries . Had to heavily modify the inner for the bearing support , and grind the ribs off the bearing support...

I installed my belt 9 years ago ...I used the method Rhysmort described ,by loosening the tranny and kicking by hand with the plugs out to align the belt . mite not be the Hi Tech method , but worked...

it would probobly help if you stop topping off the oil in your tranny ..stand the bike up and check the level is just up and on to the throwout bearing ...also do you have a chain guard ?

ok ...so your sayin that the inner primary will line up to the C/L of the tranny shaft and the motor sproket shaft ...I was led to believe that the inner primary would not align correctly to bolt up...

1965 motor and tranny in a 58-64 frame
I have a nice 65 motor and tranny in a pre 65 swing arm frame ..I have been told that to convert to e-start can not be done ...wont fit !... I have seen some e-start primaries on rigid frame harley...

mite jus need a new throttle shaft ….the bushings are steel ….shaft is brass... bushings are available on line but they are a bear to get out ! ….check out" Linkert M series carburetor " discussion...

prime kicks should be limited ...to many will flood , and you will need 3 more kicks to clear [ key off , choke open , full throttle ] . Prime only till you smell gas , then 1 hot kick should do it...

I got a leaky main seal ...if I fill to the threads , it just leaks out , so I fill so it comes up on the throwout bearing . I use about a quart every 2 or 3 years …..it jus a panhead , oil is cheap !

if u have the pogo seat and want the original look ...cut the top off an old 6 volt battery ,, clean it out ….stuff it with 2 small 12volt batteries wired in parallel and connected to the original 6...
