Re: Panhead Backfiring/Firing on one cylinder.

Just been through something similar on my points fired evo. Would start & tick over fine but as soon as you tried to put any load on it it'd start popping & banging & wouldn't pull cleanly at all.

Re: First Harley, first ride...

As far as I know, the brakes only need to meet the standards of the day to past the test, the trick is to find a tester that's au fait with vintage vehicles.
At 1968 isn't it test exempt anyway?

Re: Can anybody help identify these apes?

ebay.co.uk search for narrow apes turns up loads, the Burly brand & RSD aren't cheap though.

A set of Streetbob take-offs for about 30 quid are a good buy, pretty narrow, & if you have the clamp...

Re: Dumb 9 spoke mag wheel valve stem question

I've a pair of 9-spokes as well, same deal with the different size valve holes. Ran them tubeless for a while with a metal valve in one & a rubber stemmed one in the other & was constantly topping...

Re: Safe fuel tank repair

After thoroughly flushing the tank with water & dish soap several times I usually do the woof! test, torch to the filler cap at arms length & let it go woof! If you leave it sit, always do the torch...

Re: british anzani 8-valve project

That figures, I should've put 2 & 2 together when I saw it was Austria.
Super cool bike, super interesting & super rare too unfortunately. I guess Mr McEvoy wasn't the marketing genius that George...

Re: british anzani 8-valve project

There's one in Austria. Beats a Brough any day of the week.

Re: How to make a new paint job check/crack (on purpose)

Paint it, lacquer it, give it a chance to set up a little & then wipe it down with a rag with some thinners on it.

Re: Videos ?

McEvoy-Anzani, makes a Brough look like a common place girl's bike.

Re: I need a carb that doesn't make me question my sanity

CV on my kick only, points fired evo. Tuned it to suit with a thunderjet kit ten years ago & haven't had to touch it since. 1 or 2 kick bike, unless of course, there's any kind of audience, in which...

Re: Interesting double backbone oil-in-frame Norton Commando frame

Definitely build it, much more interesting than any featherbed framed special.

Re: Fuel tank choice.

I didn't realise the turn around time at the Tank Shop was so long, but with the prices he charges for the work he does, I'm not surprised.

These guys do some tasty looking work too, also in the...

Re: Triumph TR6 - Lower Fork Bush Nut

Try a bit of heat, not cherry red or anything silly, but enough to loosen the loctite's grip if that's what it is, or to get the parts to expand if it's just plain tight

Re: Yet another 650 Triumph Joe Hunt question.

The old adage goes "95% of carb problems are electrical in nature", so it's probably safe to assume the opposite is true too.

My internet connection was playing up when I made my last post, i was...

Re: Yet another 650 Triumph Joe Hunt question.

Happy I opted for a second hand Boyer & new Harley coil after reading the two current Joe Hunt threads. Have myself a bike that starts & runs & an extra $1000 in pocket.

Re: '79 XLCR X-pipe on evo XL?

Was going to say French company Mecatwin make all the stuff to turn an evo sportster into a pretty credible xlcr tribute, but seems the only bit they haven't tried to recreate is the pipe.
So Bob's...

Re: Triumph 650 shifting issues

Sounds like one or both of the cam plate follower rollers has come off during assembly if you're getting all 4 gears, but badly.

When properly assembled the leaf spring setup feels agricultural...

Re: Blown Triumph Triple Chopper / Bar Hopper Build

From what I understand, running a draw through set-up with a plenum, charge cooler, or both, between the compressor & motor is a bad idea in case the motor coughs back through an inlet valve &...

Like someone already said, great proportions, your "eye" is the equal of your engineering skills, can't wait to see the rest of the bike.

Re: Picked up a another BSA today, not sure what direction to go...

Dunlop Trials Universal? Where you buy them though, I don't know. Mitas & Heidenau do a nice 19" trials type front like that, but not a matching 18" rear. If anyone knows where to get those trials...
