Re: Post your sporty pics

Here is a pic of my ironhead I have been building for 2 years. I just don't have the time or place to really work on it properly. I've been doing a little at a time whenever I get a chance to invest...

Re: Muriatic Acid for Gas Tank Cleaning

I like to use electrolysis to remove heavy scale first. Next I make a rough mixture of pool PH Down (acid in granule form) and water, dissolve it completely, then pour it in the tank. Check on it...

Re: The Ribeye (motorcycle build thread)

Looking good so far! Have you decided what you are going to run for tires?

Re: school me on chains

I've had an o-ring chain on my sportster for about 5 years now. Never had one problem with it even after riding around most of the North East states. I use maxima chain wax because I don't have a...

Re: Evo Sporty Redux

Well I've made some progress, exhaust is fixed and back on, though I still need to make a support for both mufflers. Had a slight wiring issue that took care of gettin it to spark, but it runs now!...

Re: painting tank with spray cans??

Yes, my paint shop guy carries that clear in a can. There is a can inside the can that you release by hitting the bottom of the can with a button then shake it up. The only downside is that you have...

Re: painting tank with spray cans??

You should be peeling it before the paint cures, and pull the tape parallel to the surface. Spray can paint isn't exactly formulated to be used with pinstripe.

Re: Evo Sporty Redux

I think I had a thread years ago, the pictures on it are likely gone.

My ugly risers are too wide to fit directly on the springer, and I didn't want to try to find and buy new ones. I found these...

Re: Evo Sporty Redux

Ok so for the paint, this is what I did. Keep in mind that this is my first ever multi-color paint job I've ever attempted (though I have painted before), so even you can do it if you have...

Re: Evo Sporty Redux

Badassbrutus, I have an oxy/act torch. Nothing can beat that for heat other than running the motor which is probably the best route. The head cools as fast as it heats up it seems. I'll get it out...

Re: Evo Sporty Redux

Thanks, I am very happy with how it came out as compared to what it was before. I'll post more pictures later today so everyone can see the steps I tool to get a trick paint job like this. It looks...

Re: Evo Sporty Redux

Thanks everyone!

I did weld a nut onto the stud but it twisted the tip of the stud off. I ordered a socket style stud remover to do it the right way. I really don't want to snap it then have to...

Re: Evo Sporty Redux

Thanks guys.

Two steps forward and one step back. While I was putting the other exhaust pipe on, I found that one of my front exhaust studs was chewing up nuts. I've gotta pull the stud out...

Evo Sporty Redux

It's been a long time since I've posted here, mostly due to a lack of internet service, but anyway I am putting the finishing touches on my sportster. Made some changes from Z bars to SS apes from...

Re: Show your bike pics

Thanks! It's just a 2002 Sporty frame and engine, stock other than bigger jets. The hardtail is a LedSled, with a DNA springer I modified to my liking.

I want to change the bars to some small apes...

Re: Look Ma! No brakes!

I agree. I don't have a front brake, just a rear disc. It is very easy to lock it up, but I've learned the limits of what my bike is capable of. I ride very carefully, I slow down when I'm near cars,...

Re: oil tank pressurized, way pressurized! help?

I believe there is a vent line that runs from the bottom up to the top of the inside of the tank (above the oil level). Be sure that this line is not pinched or it could contribute to your problem....

Re: Sportster clutch cable, and ditch the factory lever?

Well the lead thing on the lever end is like an eyelet, where a pin held it in place. I'm not sure of the differences at the motor end either.
