I've never had those parts get that bad but I think a careful cleaning while maintaining specs. would fix it. A dab of grease will lessen friction. Those points systems are reliable as a stone axe....

You could wet sand and buff it but the cracks will remain. Buffing compound or wax will penetrate the cracks and have to be removed.

I can personally recommend Wrights Custom Chrome in Grafton Ohio. I've had them do pot repair and plate, chrome and nickle plate steel and brass and straighten and polish alluminum and stainless.
