I got good results taking a rust-encrusted tanks to a radiator shop and having it coated with RedKote. Also had good results using the POR15 tank cleaning kit at home but it's a real pain in the ass...

if you can easily remove the springs by hand they are too loose…my 56 has a few different spring holes so you can adjust the tension…if you can't buy tighter springs, perhaps you can just drill some...

just don't do what I did once and blow out the accelerator pump passage with the tiny diaphragm still installed…popped it like a balloon! and what a PITA is it to put that lil fucker back together...

I can turn a wrench pretty well but electrical is my Achilles' heel…

I have rewired a few older Harley choppers, but never tackled one...
