Re: Fully Rebuilt '64 XLCH Sportster- WTS/ WTT

I still have the bike- I just dropped $340 on a cast/ finned aluminum primary to dress it up and seal up the primary. I'm going to put it on this week and try to get a few miles on the bike. It does...

Fully Rebuilt '64 XLCH Sportster- WTS/ WTT

I'm regretfully selling my '64 Ironhead. The bike was fully rebuilt, re-chromed and re-painted a few years ago. Last year it started running rough, and the kicker was slipping so I had the top end,...

Re: probable dumb ? again - cut springs on 35 mm forks now what

I know on the earlier (up to '78 or so) forks with the damper rod, you add a spacer the same length as the amount you cut off the springs. Not sure what to do if there is no damper, I've never taken...

Re: Japan scene motor bikes

I'd agree that some of the bikes over there are way too over the top, but I think that's the point of those particular bikes. I also think that this statement could be applied to what was happening...

Re: Ugly and Funny Bikes... the "Short Bus" of pic threads..

I've been getting some pretty interesting trade offers from craigslist for my '68 Ironhead project. Here one particularly impressive standout:

Re: Whats the best cheap oldschool looking tire?

Yeah, I have the 3.00 X 21 on my XS. I've done a bunch of hard riding on it including a Gypsy Run with no problems. It's a light bike but I've taken some hard corners pretty fast on it.

Re: Ugly and Funny Bikes... the "Short Bus" of pic threads..

That BSA WAS beautiful! I've seen 3 of their bikes in person at the Brooklyn Invitational, and while they look great, it always amazed me they made it in one piece during the 6 block ride to the...

Re: 1968 Ironhead Whole or Parts

Price drop on the motor/ title.

I'll sell the frame- good and uncut- for $400 plus shipping.

I'll sell the other little parts after I sell the frame/ motor. I'll also sell the complete bike- I...

Re: Humble paint question

I'd say use the clear. I had an oil tank get drenched in gas after a fuel tank leak and it was only duplicolor. It melted and bubbled the paint really bad. Just hit the clear with sandpaper/ rubbing...

Re: Humble paint question

I'd knock the paint around before you clear- scratch, ding, sand, kick it around the grass. Then clear and sand to 1500, but don't polish. It should have a nice matte finish. I took an old black...

Re: 1968 Ironhead Motor/ Title/ Front End

Well thanks for your opinion but check the prices of pre-AMF Sporties. I don't know how the market is in Italy (I'm betting they're even harder to find over there), but here they fetch a lot more...

1968 Ironhead Whole or Parts

I'm considering parting my '68 XLCH out but wanted to see if there was any interest in the motor and title first, before I tear the whole bike apart. For those that don't know, the title goes to...

Re: Panheads Forever - Hottest pans ever! PICS

I think they came stock on some bikes, and you can get them still. I had a stock '69 XLCH with them on it.

Re: Trying to get to know my 1958 Triumph - your input please

That's a 39mm Harley front end- they're great. And you have a Honda Xl250/ 500 front wheel, but I'd be concerned with the brake stay, it doesn't look too solid to me.

Re: 33mm extra narrow triple trees

My bud Kyle at Leadfist Cycles has narrowed some 33.4mm trees, with a custom top tree I think. Here's his blog: http://www.leadfistcycles.blogspot.com/?zx=dc1ab0cb0c84c41f
