The timing light pic- is that at idle or about 3500 rpm? If that's at idle, then you are way to advanced. It should be lined up at full advance, around 3-4k.

Pull and check the needle jet, if the 2 small holes on the sides are plugged it will run fat all over the place. The needle jet is on top of the jet holder.

Nice score for 3 bills, It should have a Amal 626 on it. Still avalible and not too pricey. You might want to look into tearing the motor down to clean the sludge tube and inspect the timing side...

The number "pad" that would have been on the later case has been ground down, but the numbers almost look Triumph. The cases are later, but the push rod tubes look earlier-about the time of the vin....

Paint is the only way to go period! We have done alot of powder coating at work and it always ends up being more work in the end. Our p/c guy is good and plugs all the holes but shit never fits...
