2ft.X2ft is a lot of leather for a solo seat. Do you plain on a lot of padding? I would suggest 3-4 / 4-5 oz. leather so it will be flexible enough to conform to the padding if you plan on using...

The blue tape is covering up your front mounting bracket.I think if you lift the front of the seat a little bit it might bring the spring studs in line. Look at the pic below if you use a mounting...

Last set I did ,I took to an old service station in town. They had a wall mounted spring compressor. You know the the kind of station that does not sell coffee or sandwiches & pizza.
