back again, haven't had much time to be on this but had an evening in the garage today.

So.. replacing the start gear bushing.

Put the clutch hub back on it, bring back the trusty locking tool...

I checked that and, even with the pressure from the spring, there seems to be a slight play on the bushing.
Also, there's play on the kicker shaft bushing.
The 2 combined is probably helping for...

thing is the washer that is on the inside is too thick, so once tighten up the whole thing is solid.
need to shave a bit off that washer thickness. but ideally I'd also like the thrust washer on the...

Right... had a look today, it needs shimming as Rhys said.
removed the big washer on the outside of the kicker and put it on the inside, just to make the shaft go further in and it pushes the gear...

done a bit more today.. although nothing related to the clutch

Got spinning the mainshaft again and yes, the noise is the kicker starter gear not disengaging fully from the starter main shaft...

One of the differences is the oil feed line.

on the swingarm version it has a tight U bend and then goes straight down ' in order to clean the swingarm.
the rigid version, this U bend is not...

there is a last photo on my post that shows the top clamp in place.
they had a put a top clamp that matched the derake of the lower clamp.

Yes there was no lugging when I took her out for about 10min, smooth riding, no silly hard accellaration, just smooth.
shifts well on the gearbox, brakes are good and handles quite nicely. Clutch...

checked everything, timing, pushrods, but didn't adjust anything, all was good.

spark plugs were a bit black, probably from the oil earlier, cleaned them up.
