Pinstriping one shot question?? I just pinstriped something 2 days ago with one shot red on top of black acrilic enamal paint...will it hurt the one shot if i spray acrilic enamal clear over top of it all now? or would it react with the one shot?..oh and I didn"t thin the one shot at all..
its fresh only a few days old? |
Re: Pinstriping one shot question?? try a test panel, but it's probably going to wrinkle up the 1shot. If you are going to go for it, give it a very light first coat, with time to flash off until it's mostly dry, then follow with heavier coats.
|
Re: Pinstriping one shot question?? I would give it a couple more days....just to make sure it is completely dry..then do a "dust coat" ...then build coats ..slowly.
any reason you are going with Acrylic enamel rather than urethane? |
Re: Pinstriping one shot question?? yea I got a test panel I did I can spray over that and see what happens.. just had the acrilic enamal..and its cheap..lol..I got some clear to protect it..its on a show cart for my daughters mini horse..I used a Bugler pinstrip tool so I didnt thin the one shot any..is that ok?..just dont wann ruin it after all the work,,

Re: Pinstriping one shot question?? Depends on the solvent in the clear.
I ruined a job last week, using the wrong stuff. Not happy. Rob Axle has the right idea. |
Re: Pinstriping one shot question?? The one shot over the enamel is very durable, if it gets scratched off, touch ups will be easy. Chances of messing up all of your nice work by clearing it is very good. I'd leave it alone. It will be fine.
Zilla! |
Re: Pinstriping one shot question?? thanks im gonna leave it alone.lol,,the guys at 1 Shot said I should have used the 1 shot hardner if I"m gonna clear it..$45 a damm can oh well maybe this will help someone else thinking about that..thanks brothers..

Re: Pinstriping one shot question?? Most cars don't have their stripes cleared over.
|
Re: Pinstriping one shot question?? If you used the hardener with the One-Shot, I would like your chances. Without it... my experience is that it will likely wrinkle around the edges a little/lot almost no matter what you do when spraying the clearcoat. That's why i only use HOK striping enamel... I've literally NEVER had it wrinkle when I clearcoat over it.
Good luck, man. If you go for it, allow it to sit a few days and spray the first couple coats of clear VERY lightly in hopes it will "seal" out the solvents from the later, heavier coats. www.flamethrowercustoms.blogspot.com www.flamethrowercustoms.com |
Re: Pinstriping one shot question?? The "period correct" method is no clear over pinstripes. I just had to say it! LOL
By the way, your work looks good. |
Re: Pinstriping one shot question?? "show cart for a mini horse"
Theres something we city slickers dont hear everyday. Nice lookin lines |
Re: Pinstriping one shot question?? Dry spray first couple of coats of clear. Then spray wet coat after several dry cots. Allow dry coats to dry well before the wet coat. It can be done over HOC if you stripe with it instead of one shot also. Dry spraying a few coats works.
|
Re: Pinstriping one shot question?? I can't really add much to what is already said, so I'll just concur that the lines will probably wrinkle with a good coat of clear. The longer you let it cure, the better your odds are of a clean outcome. The 1-Shot hardener helps, and HOK striping paint is made to be cleared over.
You have the right idea by just letting it be. 1-shot is tough as hell, and traditionally striping wasnt cleared over. Cart looks pretty good, btw. Don't touch it, I'm sure your daughter will be stoked. |
Re: Pinstriping one shot question?? Holy shit,, thats the biggest swing arm i've ever seen,, i guess thats for the new 3000 series tire!!!!

Re: Pinstriping one shot question?? HOK is designed to be cleared over.
Different chemistry. |

Re: Pinstriping one shot question?? IIRC, it needed to be catalyzed, if you were not clearing over it.
The opposite of 1-Shot. I've only used it enough to say Yes. Price and availability were part of that decision. |
Re: Pinstriping one shot question?? yeah the hok is a urethane striping paint so compatolible with urethane clear. it "feels" different to work with tho. and i agree, no clear over the stripes for that old school look ... not that you can really tell unless you feel it.
|
Re: Pinstriping one shot question?? The HOK dries super fast too, but it does flow nice when it is the right consistency. I use it everytime I clear over pinstripes... never been a problem, and 1shot is hit and miss.
