1950 Triumph drag bike DukeII

Here is link to our latest bike build. It is a reproduction of a early 50's drag racer that Jack Wilson ran back then. We only had one photo to go by and we updated a few things.

If I can get those GPs dialed in we are going to make a few passes this weekend at the Texas Thaw in Denton Texas.
Texas Thaw info.

We need as many bikes there as possible. Y'all come on out Saturday weather is looking good and you can run your 1973 and earlier bike for 15.00 dollars. Cheap fun for sure.

That's a beauty. What did it take to organize the vintage racing program? I don't think we have that option up here at New England Dragway.

GOD DAMN IT!! Whay can't Big D be Big LA? I would drink Doughboys bathwater to be your sweep up boy. That is just the sweetest thing I have seen in a while...so glad somebody is doing this stuff for real and not just appointing themselves internet pre-unit racing experts. Yay Big D!!!

It is the second photo on this page. Click on it to enlarge.

Yes they are Mustang tanks. The oil tank is a toolbox from a 1950 Indian warrior 250. It took me months to figure that out.
Arias forged pistons
Jomo 15 cams
1967 unit crankshaft
Head from the Gordon Menzie stash. The ports were very nice and had been reworked by someone who knew what they were doing.
I wanted to put a 5 speed in it but the boys have broken nearly all my shit roadracing so it has a four speed for now.
Wes I could use a good floor sweep. You could get back to your roots here in Texas.
I am addicted to pre unit Triumphs. Got 5 more in line to build this year.

Sadly Big D {not Big LA :( } I left Texas under spurious circumstances many years ago and am not sure I am able to return without trouble. But seriously, keep doing that stuff, you guys rule.

If Wes doesn't want to sweep floors, I will. I can handle the commute.

Re: 1950 Triumph drag bike DukeII

Well we made it to the Texas Thaw. Only two bikes there. Us and a cool nitro shovel.
I gave up on the GPs late Friday when I did not have two GP6 needles. We swapped them for Amal concentrics and it ran much better.
We made three runs the first one was a big wheelie and missed second gear. Second run missed second gear again. Should have put in the 5 speed. They shift so much better. Third run was clean at 9.1 seconds in the 1/8th mile at 73.5mph. Here is link to photo.

Have not been to the drag races in 30 plus years. I learned a bunch and we need to make some gearing changes as Ryan was shifting into 4th about the finish line. Still a little fat on the main jet also. Going to a test and tune next weekend. I want to run 100 mph in the 1/4 mile (on gas) and then I will be happy. Then I want to put some methanol/nitro in it for shits and giggles.
I really enjoyed all the cool hot rods there also.
Should have video posted when the boy gets back from racing in Savannah.

Re: 1950 Triumph drag bike DukeII

Nice!! You need to talk to Wayne(goes by skinner on here, vintage dragbike racing on facebook) and join us this summer. He has a couple of Triumphs he's bringing out to play with.

Nice piece man

You want to feel alone? Try Weslake and sidecar at the same time. Great bike!! Was that the model for a Triumph drag bike that Monogram did in the late 50s or early 60s? I must have built a dozen of them when I was a kid.
