Some history about the bike bought it out of a shed in mooble nsw australia it came from oklahoma usa and sat there for 6 years. The motor, gearbox and clutch are in very good cond. i got the hard tail of a mate who wants my tank (so i have to find another tank) because i want to keep the crazed enamel and gold pinstriping and paint around it. looked on this site about moving the 3 coils or putting them somewhere that will look good and already had some help with keeping the motor in better condition so it doesn't get hotin the centre piston, there are heaps of photos of bonnies done into a bobber but none of a trident so any help would be a great help.I have 12 months till i can ride it with the laws here so might as well get it how i like it (stupid lams crap in australia if it was a 650 no dramas)

Man did that cost you a pretty penny or what? I was looking at an OIF as a quick side project but they aren't cheap here like they are in the US. Yer I agree with Panhead Pete, getting it registered before you chopped and changed it would have been much easier. At least that's what I was going to do if I got my hands on an OIF. Cool bike tho. Keep us updated with pics.

Yer dude it sucks about the LAMS rules as well. That's why I got myself an old rigid pre-unit 650. Means I can start cruisin' straight away.

cheers for the pic kbg and hi aussie greg it was cheaper to buy this bike than what i could get a bonnie for that needed motor rebuild, so i am in the process of building my own oil tank, got a set of drag bars and a new style oil cooler for it. once i have the oil tank fitted so i can work out how much space i have i will need to build, buy or borrow some ones idea on how to mount the 3 coils so it all looks nice and neat

Sacrilege! A Trident should never become a Bobber. That is not even a bobber by the way.
Nice work tough. |

Anything that is different from the rest is good with me. That 21" wheel looks super cool. And you can smoke many of the 650s out there.

It's fine if you chop it up, it's your bike.
Over here original Tridents are very rare and pretty expensive, and I really want one. For me personally a good running unmolested Trident is the holy grail. |

Again...bike looks good man.I unlike many don't feel the need to hide working parts of a bike. This is where I put mine.I like the look, & thats all that matters really, if you like what you're doin....The oil tank looks a little small...how much will it hold? One major fuck up on my bike is I left out the oil cooler.Don't know if I have enough oil volume to compensate for that or not.Might fit one on before I'm done.

...proportions...
In my opinion, a Trident engine is too big for that kind of transformation; let the tail section out of proportion; without "muscles". A thinned out tail is ok if all the bike maintain the proportions. Also, an very important, the handling will be no good at all (if you really will use the bike; if will be a bar hopper, there s no problem) too much weight in front section and very loose on tail; this problem (a buddy had 3) is what UNIVERSAL motorcycles (kind of BMW imitations in the past) had |

it looks like the way the man has it set up currently there is some weight shift to the rear with the front end up a little bit more than stock. With the 21" rim it appears I am spying in one of the pics it will transfer a little more weight to the rear of the bike. if the front forks were shortened just a tiny bit after the 21" rim was in place it would lower the center of gravity a little and still have the weight transfer to the rear because there is no way to lower the front so much as to get the bike totally level and still have usable fork slide. I realize the triple is a heavyweight of an engine, but I can't see it being any different in this configuration than say, a CB750 laid out the same way. I must be missing something. So with that being said, Reverb, please clarify what you are saying just a bit more please. I would like to know what I am missing here.

...hello Skinthead, I say that mainly due 3 things: the picture below the seat picture; the engine weight and that personally I saw this problem in those 3 bikes that my buddy had. Alright those bikes are not Tridents but sported similar characteristic regarding weight, engine position and little tail weight (in comparison)
You passed 90km/h and those bikes started to loose control on the rear wheel and very difficult to stop them at that speed without compromises -may be Im wrong |

I think once the oil tank, battery, coils, & whatever else (if any) fills up the space behing the engine, it will look very well proportioned. The green bike doesnt look out of proportion.I dont think my bike looks out either. The engine isnt really that big, & riders weight will compensate for that IMO.If the front isnt raked or stretched, rear stretch needs to be kept to a minimum to keep the proportions right.Like I said...I think it will look fine once the space is filled
