Default Engraved aluminum gas tank

Here is a pic of a huge engraving/sculpting project I just finished. This is cast aluminum. Customer had the tank cast with the crucifix in it. I took it from there. Also included is a link a webpage on it. At the bottom of the page, click on "The Process" to see the progress shots of it.

The titlle of the bike is "Godspeed".

Yes it is very nice work. Do you have any pictures of the pattern used to cast
the tank? Was an actual sporty tank used as pattern or was a pattern made using the tank dimensions? I have always been fascinated by cast aluminum tanks. Just not really sure of the process....

Truly outstanding. How many hours went into it? Is is going to be on a bike or strictly sculpture? Does it/will it hold gas?

The website says 210 hours, which would cost around 14000.00 bucks at my shop rate!
And they call them starving artists!

Holy cremola! That's really amazing work.. 210 hours well spent. I hate to think what the bill will be for the whole bike!

I can only imagine the patience and practice that have gone towards you working at this level of your craft. Looking forward to seeing the rest.

Otto you are a true Craftsman . The tank is a work of art. I imagine weight is not a issue besides Crocker MC had cast tanks that were 3/8 to 1/2 thick.

All joking aside, that tank is a real work of art. I can't imagine how many days were spent working on it. What sort of tools do you use?

Phoenominal work Otto!!! Absolutely beautiful!!!

I do a bit of engraving myself, and I can truely appreciate the time and effort undertaking a job of this magnitude entails. I can totally see the hours of layout time, and all the dimentions & layers that had to be thought out before you could ever pick up a chisel.

Breathtaking job my man!!!

Thanks for all the kind words. I can't wait to share more photos of the completed bike as I have yet to do the knuck engine parts.
To answer a few questions: Yes, it is heavy. I don't know exactly what it weighs. It doesn't leak. Even if it did, like on any other tank, you just treat it with Kreem gas tank sealer. The only pics I have of the process are on the provided link at the bottom of the webpage of Godspeed on my site. Just click on "The Process".

If I didn't know what it was I'd think it was one of those parade dress helmets
from the Italian Renaissance. Made for somebody very, very important, like a
king or something.

Otto,
I just knew you had to apply your talent to firearms. So, it was a pleasure to view your site. I bet there's a good story behind the Roth portrait, right?

And, thank your dad for his service. He must be one hell of a guy.

Wanted to say thanks for everyone who liked my tank!!! Mr. Otto Carter is a very good friend of mine and did one HELL of a good job on it. To answer a couple questions: yes it weighs alot, it is a 1/4 inch thick..i made the molding of the tank and jesus, and worked at a friends foundry to make the cast, and then let Otto do his magic..and NO i dont have lots of money, Otto is holding two of my toes on a book shelf for payment..and last im really trying hard to build something that will match this tank..if only i could get it to fit on the yamaha blaster frame a little better...haha..

Sometimes you just gotta build it without the thought of $$. That work of art is hard to put a number on but two toes seems to be a small price. Forged aluminum would compliment the work IMO, I wish I had the time and skill it takes to engrave metal.

Classic!

Reposted a few of the pix from your tank build some time ago on my casting blog. With links. http://bluecollarmotosmetalfoundry.b...graved-by.html

Great work! Just amazing!
