Default Wild paint

Anyone got pics of some wild paint jobs? I'm 70's style, flakes, graphics, bright colors, gold leaf, banners, etc.

there's a few threads in here about them with folks that know more about them, those are Lake "injectors", Posa made similar or one company begat the other - I cant keep it straight;

they were mainly a full-on drag race type thing, pour the fuel thru it & were'nt known for idling well.

They were painted by a tall, bearded, ruthless driver named The Harpoon. He hails from the Los Angeles area and sometimes Seattle.

No, I just saved the pictures for ideas on painting, the sporty tank with the gold and white (&more) is mine
Here is one I did with some spray bombs and an airbrush with a couple of friends,
it is far from perfect, but looks good in pictures!
Fishscales are easy!!

heres another pic... does anybody have any info on this bike? like when it was built? who was it built by?

That bike was built by Kelsey Martin of Beverly Massachusetts about 1968.It was originally copper metalflake with various colored designs on it.It was re-painted around 1970 or 71 in pearl with ribbon patterns.I helped lay out some of the ribbon layout and did the striping and lettering but Kelsey did the majority of it.

What really dates this bike is that there is an 8-track tape player molded into the top of the tank and if you look closely at the top of the seat you'll see the speaker for it!

A lot of people said it wasn't rideable as there was no place to fill the tank.It did indeed run and was ridden(albeit not very comfortably). The tank had a small(about 1")cap located just in front of the tape daeck and by inserting a funnel into the hole it could be filled with fuel.

The construction was all metal and round rod with a skim coat of plastic to finish any small imperfections. The entire paint job was done with a doorjamb gun.Kelsey hated airbrushes.

That particular picture was taken in his cellar several years ago by Nate from Alton NH.His dad is a friend of Kelsey's.Nate is hey its nate on the HAMB.

Here's a couple of pics of other bikes of his.

Not sure if this fits what you are wanting to see, but thought I would share.

This is my bike.

Kind of simple - but I do get lots of thumbs up on it - which is nice.

Thought I would share.

Keep the photos coming - Makes me want to have another tank and fender painted....

Harpoon - you rock!!!

I haven't seen one of his paint job's that I didnt love and wish I had.

Josh - that tank and fender - incredible!

Thankful, you should get a better looking tank and have me paint it, or narrow that one.

yeah, I know... you truly do need to see it in person to know its glory. The tank and fender are currently sitting on an old Ness Digger frame I recently scored, I should have completed pics pretty soon

Good looking stuff. That tank looks like it came off an old FXLR.

[quote=thankful]Not sure if this fits what you are wanting to see, but thought I would share.

This is my bike.

Kind of simple - but I do get lots of thumbs up on it - which is nice.

Thought I would share.

As much as I like the old custom stuff like that, I don't think it's much different than the crazy shit built today. It's still overboard crazy looking stuff without much function, mostly eye candy.

this thread reminded me of these really cool books my Dad had from the 70's when he got into painting bikes and such..one is called the art of custom painting by Carl "The Psychedelic Psycho" Caiati and the other is a Badger air-brush techniques book written by the same guy...these books are loaded with how-to on all these crazy effects that you don't see used much nowdays...sorry for the pics-of-pics but don't have a scanner...these are some pics that caught my eye...

Hey French Kiss, did Billy Kidd take those pics?

You guys are really good.

You got a website or something? I'm up in N. Florida and might need to come by and see you some time later this year for some paint work.

Here's my "mentor's" tank.
This & the fenders were one of Keith Hanson's first jobs....somewhere I think I've got a polaroid of Keith painting this on his girlfriend's mom's kitchen table in like '81 or '82 or something....

A lot of the color and detail has faded over the years & its not really my style but its still pretty impressive in person.

Oh..and the pictures are kinda shitty.

I love what FrenchKiss and Harpoon do. I wish I had 1 part per million of their

I'd really like to see more of Roger "Raja" Cassano's (seen the name spelled many ways?), of Chopper Specialties, work.

If you're hogging pics or have old chopper mags with his paintjobs, please share!

. . .is it browns and oranges on a black frame or is the frame brown too? I have been wondering what the brown/orange combo would look like on the black frame. Looks great from here.

Please start out here - http://www.jockeyjournal.com/forum/f...aysprune=&f=12 ,

also note we have a weekly "Friday Art" thread , where other commercial artists display their work, rather tham predominating in these pic compilations.
