I feel fortunate to have ridden a 1931 Harley VL at Maxton Mile and set a couple of records. We covered the experience in the pages of American Iron Harley Magazine two years ago. I'd love to try it at Bonneville one day. Wonder what I could ride?

One day Buzz? How 'bout a whole week in August of THIS year? One day is what fills too many bucket lists.

Agreed, Bill! I hear that alot too, that people want to make it to Bonneville Speed Week 'one day'. You might die tomorrow you never know so you better live it up while you can! A plane ticket, rental car and a tent and some money for food will get you a whole week at Bonneville watching racing and wandering around the pits. $500 or $600 and some planning sure seems like a good deal to me to fulfill a lifetime dream!

The world's only all motorcycle landspeed racing event.
Worth attending. If you like a week of nothing but fast motorcycles, that is. http://www.speedtrialsbybub.com/2011...ndex-2011.html Make 2012 your 1st time!! |

I can only afford one event. So it will be SpeedWeek. Last year there was 196 bikes entered. If I could I'd stay for BUB. But for some reason running on BUB records doesn't excite me. I know they are AMA records but SCTA records mean more to me. Blaze away.

If you ever earn one of these Bill, it will mean something to you, I promise! Too bad there won't be anymore signed by the gentlemen that signed this one. Earl Flanders, and J. Otto Crocker.

Dean, Apologies. I didn't mean to denigrate BUB or the achievements of racers there. Fast is fast no matter where you do it. And yes it is something to have a record cert signed by Earl Flanders and J. Otto. That is something to be proud of.
Its just me. But you never know. One day i might be able to afford to hang around after SpeedWeek and run BUB. But I do have a preference for these. ![]() By weslake at 2011-12-12

Hello Board,
I have ridden my old Shovel from Indiana to Utah 3 times since 2004 to race in the Run Watcha Brung class at the BUB event. No trophies or money or records, but the absolutely KICKASS memories I've made. Denis Manning puts on a great show and it's only for bikes. The salt IS addicting and it has to be experienced to get the full impact of the place. Everone should go at least once, whether you race or not!! Scotty....hdstm ![]()

After four years of running on the east coast at Loring and Maxton I can't tell you guys how much I dream of making the long trip west. We will see if its in the cards for next year.

I got my trophies the other day
I will take a pic and get em on here and my build thread. Pretty exciting, I forgot about them and then all of a sudden there they were! Hopefully I can add a few more in 2012, I want to get enough of em I have to build a special shelf to hold them ![]() Tyler |

And regarding BUB, my brother and I would like to try and stay and race at least part of BUB, but it comes down to time away from family and work as well as money. If they were further apart it would be easier, or closer, but the one week gap kind of makes it tough!

Its exciting when those boxes arrive. Dig through the peanuts and pull out the trophy. It doesn't matter how many times it happens its still exciting. Tyler, post the photos. You and Kyle earned them!

No offense taken Bill. When we ran in '69 AMA was affiliated with SCTA, and we ran speed week. While we had a ball in 2010 running with BUB, I wish AMA still ran with SCTA. I missed the cars.
Scotty, we saw you make a run on Old Blue in 2010. I have to say your attitude epitomizes the spirit of the salt racer. You have fun, and that's what it's all about. |

Dean, I have a question concerning AMA certs. I heard a story a long time ago that Earl Flanders charged a few buck for his signature on a record cert. I can't remember the details and I'm not even sure if I really heard it. You were there. Can you clarify please?
The cars at SpeedWeek are pretty cool. I don't suppose you could be talked into running SpeedWeek in 2012?
