Default Harley dealership in the winter.

So its winter and times are slow, so we are doing some builds and restorations at work. I just finished up a 1961 Harley Davidson super 10, which you can so a little of in the pictures. I was now told I was to build a chopper with a captain america feel, tall sissy bar, king queen seat, etc. out of just things laying around the shop. So I found a 70ís vintage rolling frame in the warehouse and a panhead from 1957 flh that we have a clean title for and started piecing it together. So here is the piece part chop.

Just paneled it in to close up the gap some.

First layer of primer after blocking with 220

Fender radius a bit tighter after some working.

Captian America is the bike from the 1969 movie Easy Rider. A real harley engine with have factory numbers stamped in the left side crank case. Such as 57FLHXXXX.

Great looking bike! I bet building bikes is more fun than doing 5K services. Keep the pics coming.

Looks great, I worked at a dealership for 5 years and the chrome garb additions and the 5k services sucked mostly. But when the good jobs like engine rebuilds, and performance mods came in it made it all worth it. We always tried to get people to wait for the winter months to do the good stuff; it kept us busy and broke the monatony up a little. Only wish I would have found a stash like that!!!

The Cpt. American bike was designed by a black guy named Ben Hardy, Who because of society reasons, was never really givin the recognition. He designed that bike and the billy bike.

Yeah its a nice change of pace to work on the old bikes at work. I'm lucky to work for a old dealership who has been stock piling parts sense he started.

Yeah, it's the Crusaders MC swapmeet. It won't be big but it's the only one we have in the area. Last weekend's in St. Cloud was a good one.

I can still get pretty much any shovelhead or sportster part at the Fargo dealership and that one parts guy who's been there for decades really knows his parts. I hear a lot of crap about HD dealerships but I've never had any bad experience at that one.

I find it more disturbing that someone does not key to "Captain America" or Easyrider, than not knowing of the builders.

I mean there was the much-publicised re-release for the 30th anniversary in '99, so that should rule out total n00b-younguns...

FYI-whoever, here is our thread about Ben Hardy & Cliff Vaughs, little-known builders of the two most iconic and recognisable bikes in chopper history -

Right on, I'll have to try and get over there to check it out. Thanks for the props on the dealership, our staff really does their best to get anyone what they need.

Oh we still have to do lots of moving snow with all the storms we have had. Its nice to work on restorations and builds over the normal bs service work.

That can't be a HD dealership. Where's all the fancy set-up they require dealers to have. Our local dealer had to tear down their entire building and build a new one so it had a "look" the factory wanted. They don't like corrugated steel. And a Triumph primary - tar and feathers. I call FOUL!!!!

Looks like you guys are putting some down time to good use.

Thanks man, I miss the warm weather every damn day, haha. But winter does makes for a good time to build bikes and cars.

Got the tank and fender painted, design inspired from work done by frenchkisskustoms.

That bike looks real good in person. I'm sure to see you riding it this summer.

Thanks for the advice regarding my Dyna's wiring harness when I stopped over. It was appreaciated and I didn't even buy anything that day. Your one dealership where I can still get pretty much any shovelhead part.

It's nice putting a face to a name. Thanks again.

Its not the stiffest, but I built a really stiff seat pan to help it out. So we will see how it works.

couldnt agree more villa!
xtream, didnt catch the seat pan ataching to it, ya thats gotta help. i dont know if it is solid or not but, if its tubing and you can drill a hole in the bottom of it, i've heard that sylicon will help the vibrations, just a thought, d.

Thanks. Yeah that would have been the owner of the dealership here i think, about 75 years old with white hair and his wife. He sure knows how to ride the hell out of a bike for a old guy though.

That came out great. I'd like a close up of the tank in the Sunlight. You did an excellent job all the way around! How is the vibration on that sissybar? Have a chance to take a spin yet?

Thanks!

I'm going to be taking some more pictures of it this weekend with a better camera.

The sissy bar doesn't cause any problems. I think its in part of the very stiff seat pan though.
