I used the appliance paint rattle can. HArd as nails and wet sands nice and glassy. You have your choice of colors. Black, white or avacado for that "retro" look.

Rust-Oleum Satin Enamel. Not real hard, but easy to touch up. Has that old look if you ask me. Does not hold up to gas. Clear engine enamel and lots of wax on tank. The shamefull sales pitch. Tank decal from eDecals.com

I rattle can everything. haha. Usually Orchard Supply Hardware satin black enamel, the cheap stuff in the big can. doesn't rust through like primer, and no need to primer.
Just make sure to sand well and get a good surface for the paint to lay flat on. |

Here's mine, I painted with spray bomb and then did a number of things to age it like it was found in a burned up barn or something (after doing the two color job I sanded it, massaged in wood stain, buffed it off, put on black paint and whit paint, and buffed them as it dried, rubbed in lin seed oil, washed it with gas and oil) I'm doing something different now, but it looked kinda neat for the summer, everyone thought it was "real" patina.

WOW. I have to see this one again from a different angle!! Are you kidding me, that was from a rattle can? Nice work. That's inspiring.

Henry Fords cars were originally painted with a brush, then hand rubbed. Later on, paint was wet sanded with gasoline before polishing. Rattle cans are actually very hi-tech. Or how about the guys painting their cars with rustoleum and a hi-density roller...then wet sanding and polishing. It works, I tried it on my deuce coupe.

Krylon...
layed down several wet coats of red oxide than a couple light coats of the green than taped off the scallopps and painted them ivory. Let it set up for a few hours than wet sanded everything with 400 grit until I got the effect I wanted... $17.00 best paint job I've ever had.. ![]() ![]()
