Default Tech: Pipes

I started by using some welding rod to make a rough model of my pipes.

I ordered three 1.5 inch stainless mandrel bends from speedway motors. They were $22 a piece, and my pipe clamps were only 2 bucks a piece, so I have a total of $70 invested in the pipes.

I cut the collars off of the the stock pipes to reuse.

Time to start cutting.

I tacked my first piece to the collar, and mounted it.

Second piece.

Third.

I made the end piece separately...

Then welded it on.

I used the finished pipe to make measurements for the other side.

Next, I finish welded the pipes. I used a TIG with stainless filler rod.

After finish welding, I hit the high spots with a grinder, then went to a 80 grit flap, then a 150 grit flap wheel.

Then I used 400 grit on a palm sander.

Next, I started buffing using a hard buffing wheel and aggressive compound.

And the same for the other side.

Done!

Maybe a little more buffing later, but I'm pretty pleased with the results.

Very cool, like the way they look after the polishing. Thought about how insanely loud those are going to be right under your ears while riding?

is the back of the pipe supported? Hate for those pretty things to vibrate to pieces.
