I just thought I'd log on here and share some family pics I found.
They seem more appropriate here than on the HAMB. These are shots of my In-Laws and friends at the drags, the lakes, in East LA, and down Mexico way. Enjoy! Phil Last edited by Kilroy; 07-28-2008 at 08:08 PM. |

[QUOTE=Kilroy]I just thought I'd log on here and share some family pics I found.
It's great to see some pics from 'back in the day' , it gives wannabe's like me a chance to see how they REALLY did it, and it's also given me some cool ideas for my T120 project. Thanks, and Keep 'em coming!

Love the pictures, I'd like to see more. It must be pretty cool to have the pictures as a reminder of your family's bike history.

My mother in law saw this and was happy. It got her to open up about a lot of the pix. I think I'm going to write a book about the lives of the people in the pix. My wife has the Photos copywrited so please don't use them for profit. ![]() As far as anybody still riding... The guy that you see in most of the pics is my Father in Law and he doesn't ride any more. He was in a race in Mexico and rode off a cliff and broke his back among other things. I don't think he rode after that. Rumor amongst the family is that he has a 1946 Vincent Black Shadow hidden away somewhere. Apparently he had several and kept one but swears he sold it. But most people believe he NEVER would have sold it and he's vague about who and when he sold it. There are interesting stories about everyone in those pictures. I'm going to try to compile a written history on them all. In many ways they are the REALITY behind the fantasy of "The Wild Ones" and all the Teen Angst movies of the 50's. Their stories aren't all romanticized... |

Many of his contraptions were Upholstered on the other side of this fence... Joe Perez who worked for Barris and Winfield and worked with Martinez, had his house/shop on the other side of that fence. Roth, Bailon, etc had projects go through there. He still does it too. Last edited by Kilroy; 07-28-2008 at 08:08 PM. |

What year did he do this bike? It bears an uncanny (to say the least) resemblance to the Megacycle Trumpet...but a bit more "bloody knuckled" looking. Is it possible that Roth borrowed the lines and refined them a bit? Kilroy, your thread is the best ever. |

The back of the picture says 1957. I think it was right after he finished it because I have a slightly earlier shot without the tank ot it that looks like a mock-up shot. When did Roth do the Megacycle? |

AMAZING PICS KILROY. check pm's ROth did NOT build that sweet triumph that went on the back of the "Capt. Pepi zeppelin and motorcycle repair"" shop truck. He traded the equally sweet "OINK" for it, since it was too heavy for the shop truck. here is some info on it: http://www.mrgasser.com/megacycle.htm this website has many, many errors on it, though but my pics of the machine are on another cpu and this is the best I can do. but here, for the first time on the board, I will join the picture I schooled tony bones on cool with, together with the glorious pic posted by capt cal. this bike(oink) was resplendent in gold metalflake if I remember the roth magazine correctly. |

One of the reasons I've been away is I moved to Austin, TX. I used to live off of College near the Mar Vista. I packed all the pics away shortly after this post (That's why they were out in the first place) and headed out. So I haven't looked at them since. I'm glad you all dig them. Thanks for the feedback... Funny thing is, while I've never really been into bikes that much, I think I'm getting the bug to build a streetable version of my Father in Law's drag-Trump. My wife wants a bike again too... So who knows... I kinda feel like I can't get away from my family's history in a way... My dad rode Harleys too, so there you go. ![]() Quote:
That pic of you "Bare-Backing" it on you're bobber gives me chills too... In a different way. It's a sweet bike though. Last edited by Kilroy; 09-22-2006 at 12:59 PM. |

I'm pretty sure that was an attempt to be able to ride the bike to the drags, swap the bars, and compete... I don't think that's one of my Father in Laws bikes, though. He was a Brit-Bike guy. |

This thread gives me goose bumps. (Head shaking) God-damn... Those pics and the people in them are the inspiration for generations of motorcycle fans. I'm buying ten copies of the book, just let me know when it's available.
We are not worthy.

One more out of my Swedish grand father's shoebox... Those "Photochops" are awesome, they are out of a Swedish bike rag called MCM (www.mcm.se) where the editor is a verry good friend of mine and all time cool dude... DP says: We have MCM & Gasoline (www.gasolinemagazine.se) that are cool over here.... |

Really great pics. Could you ask your Father In Law if that is the old Coyote Pass road in Monteray Park. It's now called Monteray Pass road and if so was he or knew any of the Flamingo's of ELA. Thanks
