Default Monark Super Twin ??

I found this tank today at the junkyard in the back of a V8 Corvair. The owner threw it in for free with the 2 ford flathead motors I went for. It says Monark Super Twin on it. Anybody know what this went to or what it's worth? Should I go back and look through the rest of the car again ?

These were bicycle attachments. US made, I believe. Kinda like a Whizzer, but totally different. Seems like they were an opposed twin. Several years ago a local guy found a magnificent condition Flying Merkel engine, perfect in every way. He would not sell it, only would trade for a Monark. I offered him my 1919 Johnson twin on a Pierce Arrow bicycle, but it had to be a Monark. I couldn't find a Monark anywhere! He finally traded it for a Whizzer, I think. What an idiot.

Monark Supertwinn tank:

Actually, contrary to the Whizzer 'kits', the Supertwinn was sold always as a complete machine. The frame is much wider at the rear than a standard Monark frame.

The engine was a 2 stroke 'Power Product' and they where faster than the Whizzer.

It is a VERY desirable bike. That tank is a 250-300$ item any day...

Feast your eyes on this...
An absolutely correct restoration of a Monark Supertwin, by one of the hobby's best restorer, Don Patzalek (D & E restorations).

This baby sold for 10 000$:

Wow. Thanks guys. I guess I'll go back and look for any other parts that might be in the car.

Rick, do you know of any owners clubs for this bike?

pretty f'n neat find! im into bikes just as much as motorcycles & i really dig the vintage stuff. i was a mechanic at a shop for years & one of our regulars was pretty big into the whizzers. ive got a few vintage bikes now but none are motorized (except for my triumph of course) i found a 1939 elgin ladies balloner in the trash up the street & did a quick resto on it for my girl to ride. i also found a 1967 schwinn speedster in the trash which was in immaculate original condition. i still ride it on the original tires! my favorite of them all is my 1953 schwinn phantom. its a gorgeous green color with giant chrome fenders. a friend from the shop i used to work at gave it to me since a customer gave it to him to throw out & he didnt want it. after i fixed it up & showed him he was pissed he gave it up. its cool though, i gave him my old 56 raleigh 3 speed & he fixed it up & sold it for an assload of money. i also found that one in the trash.

people are crazy with the stuff they just throw away. i found a mid 50s shelby ballooner in the trash before too. i fixed it up & gave it to a friend & he left it in NC..... ass.

Not specific to the Supertwin.
I do know some collectors who have one or a few Supertwins, though.
Parts are MUCH more difficult to get than Whizzers.

Contrary to the 'motorcycle side of things', the motorbike (and vintage bicycle) collector usually has a more 'diverse' collecting pattern? Not as 'brand specific'. i.e: some Cushmans, a few Whizzers, maybe a few Powells and assorted vintage scooters...

The 'Mecca' of motorbike collecting is the Vintage Motorbike Club of America's annual meet in Portland, Indiana.

Please, let us know how that 'dumpster dive' turns out, okay?

Steve -

Might get quicker results clicking his name & selecting 'private message' or 'email', than hoping he'll notice an almost 2-year old thread resurfacing.
