Default Can Someone Tell Me a Bit About the Stelling & Hellings Company?

I have two sets of their bars, one NOS, and they have the same bends as the old Flanders I have.

Any company history?

I know they made some hot rod stuff (air cleaners). I didn't know they made bike parts. Maybe try over at jalopy journal? That's all I know...about them.

S and H built hot rod parts but also built some bike parts. Mostly they bent bars I think. I do not have one of their old catalogues. Up until about 2 years ago you could still see the faded "mustache man" logo painted on the wall of their old building over in Burbank, CA. Then some snooty bunch of dipshits moved in and were going to sell modern accessories in the back, painted over the wall, then promptly got moved out by the city for violating city ordonnances. Seems they were fixing and restoring bikes when the we not zoned for it.

Pretty sure they went out of biz in the mid to late 1960's. Scuttlebut with some old guys was that Hellings did not get along so well with Stellings. . .

If the bars still have the blue foil sticker on them, I might be interested in a pair?

Seems a shame to put someone out of business for fixing and restoring bikes, even if you thought they were dipshits.... regards, Lizard

Epi,

That is a totally cool ad! That is the guy you could see on the building in Burbank. Notice how his mustache is shaped like the bars?

I remember i bought a bunch of those bars NOS at a So. Cal Swap and sold a few sets on ebay, they did not do nearly as well as the Flanders stuff.

Here is a pic of one of their bends in 7/8ths

Thanks everyone.

I'm keeping the NOS ones and the others are headed to Danny F. I think the reason they don't sell for as much as the Flanders is due to people not knowing about them. Maybe we helped that here a little

Are you opposed to restrictive zoning ordinances, people who criticise other people for painting over classic murals, or people who call other people dipshits. Please clarify.
