Transmission is done! It was rebuilt with some new and good used parts. A generator is next, along with mounting the gas tanks...

Hmm. Just doing some reading about that thing now. I've never seen one in a Harley I opened up; never owned one from the right time period.

At risk of derailing your thread, does it work well?

This is good discussion, No worries about a derailment, there is one on my 50FL as well... I'm guessing it works... I wonder what year they stopped using them?

Just went through the whole thread.

I'm envious of your basement find, so much cleaner and less "used" than my 54 pan motor. Mines had a working life runs beautifully but it's slogged. I love the latest iteration of the bike also! will be following this.

The wheels looked to have been out of service for decades, updated the hub with a side grease fitting.

I picked up these tanks last summer, gonna put them on bug eyes. What would this flat bracket be for? maybe a coil? or another place to mount something? Does anybody have some info on B.U.B. ? ....not much out there on the web.

Are the tanks B.U.B? They offered a set of smaller than stock fatbobs for drag racing use a long time ago. I never held a set in my hands and always wanted to see one. Looks like these were modified for street use.
B.U.B. makes exhaust systems

There is a BUB stamp on the inner flat sides, these look to be never used, inside is mint. there is a pair of them on that auction site now that have the same "bracket mount thingy" as Jaws would say

From what I could find is that they were produced in limited quantities, 17 gauge steel & held 3 gallons.

Update time. Primary and clutch is on. I ended up getting the Antigravity 4 cell battery. Hopefully there is time to get to the generator & finish the wiring over the weekend. Then start to figure out how to mount the tanks...

Generator went on today! If all goes well Bug Eyes should be ready to fire up soon. Two spacers still need to be made up for the rear wheel.
