Default pan/genny shovel brake side swap?

I prefer the look of the left side panhead front brake, but I ended up with a generator shovel right side drum brake and fork legs, can I just rotate the whole thing, and have the brake cable in front of the fork leg, or is there some issue with the way the brake cam works that would make it a bad idea?

I know its been done before, but so have rigid forks, I'm wondering if theres a downside (other than the fork drain screw being on the leading edge, and offending purists)

I'm pretty sure (reasoning about this in my head) that it should be fine for the SLS harley type brakes.

TLS brakes are a total no-go for reverse operation.

From http://victorylibrary.com/brit/2LS-c.htm#shoe-types
"[SLS systems] works equally well in either direction, and therefore prevents “roll-back”."

It will function just fine. You'll have the brake cable, brake anchor tab, and drain screws on the front of the forks. Personally, I think that would be less pleasing aesthetically than having a right side brake. Also you need to use the "mid-star" hub with that '68 and up shovel brake setup.

Yeah, I know its not to everyones taste, but that alloy brake plate looks like a disc brake cover to me, and I hate discs!
Thanks for the replies, I'll give it a try.

It will look equally bad, from either side. So why reinvent the brake? Or do you only ride where people are on the RH side? haha. Just kidding, but it is true.
