Just a quick question. Are cafe racers welcome on this board?

Re: Cafes? Cafe projects?

Thanks a lot Alphahunter!

Mmmmmm; it's coming along real slow.
Been working too much.

As 'tested' with the tan tape on the pic above
the seat has been trimmed lower and re-upholstered:

Engine parts fixed up:

...and all the bits and bobs spread out.

..so it still looks like this as of today.

Having second thoughts about the frame color.
Guess it's what you call "an acquired taste"
and I'm not sure I've acquired it.......ha ha !

Thanks.

Octane98,
Thats a Toy Box!!! Love that workshop! Thanks for the update. I cant wait to see the bike complete. You will have to post a vid when you are done :)

PS What are you doing with the Triumph Dreamsicle tank I saw on the ground? Are you going to do a Dreamsicle bobber???

Re: Cafes? Cafe projects?

Thank you BL !

The tank is from a Spitfire:

and the seat BTW is from a Lightning Clubman:

All the best stuff from BSA comes together here

.-)
Hey Octane,
The combination of the large spitfire tank, and clubman seat is exactly what I did for my Lightning cafe. The difference of course is I've used the A65 Lightning as a base. I think the parts come together quite well.

Re: Cafes? Cafe projects?

How pricey are those to items typically?
Hi BD
I wish I could help, but I'm afraid I have no idea.
They were there when I bought the bike,
except the tank was painted. (..and I've modified the seat)
I do know that the tank is available as new/replica.
I'll see if I can find the source.

EDIT: found it.
It' savailable from: UNITY EQUIPE ...check the site/download their catalogue. They have some nifty cafe-stuff.

They call it: BSA Gold Star racing tank / UNAX3

Whoooha: it's 460£---> 900 $US

Another option for the seat would be this:
(pic from BSA-Cafe's link, in his profile)

That seat is available from Unity Equipe as well at 200 $US

Good luck with your project

They certainly do. That's one hell of a nice bike you've got there!

PS: you miss the BSA sign at the back of the seat ???!

Mine was red and when I changed the colors of the bike/seat
I had to change it to black. Only comes in pairs, so had to buy two.
IF you need it, you can have mine for the postage cost.
(That's onlya few $)
You can even chose between black or red!

Re: Cafes? Cafe projects?

Thanks for the offer octane, but I do have a pair of badges in black....like you do. The picture I posted was from two summers ago. Here is a picture of the same bike, but with beat up side covers and a Thunderbolt tank....this is how I rode it last summer. It's back with the big tank on it for this season.

Re: Cafes? Cafe projects?

Thanks Lars, for bringing this one back up earlier today. BSAs are such natural cafe candidates, it's so much in their heritage.

I've posted my DBD34 Goldstar earlier in this thread & too many times on this board, but this talk of alloy tanks etc is a great chance to show one of my favorite Goldies ever,
these pix saved from ebay.....(the seeming tire markings are pic watermarks of a sort) -

Re: Cafes? Cafe projects?

Here's a Rocket III (BSA A75) I wish I had more pix or any detail on -

Judging by the z-plates, side covers (note two bolts on top edge of side cover that bolt to oil tank underneath) and the look of that frame, I'd wager that is a Rocket III motor stuffed into a Commando frame. Sure looks like it to me anyway but maybe I'm wrong. Cool bike and that Gold Star picture you attached a few posts above is dreamy.

Re: Cafes? Cafe projects?

Chrome work was done in Dayton at Blakley's Polishing on North Dixie. Blakley preps all the metal and then takes it to Indy for chrome. Reasonable prices, great work but you have to stay on him about getting the work done on time.....

Oil tank is a Benjie's Cafe unit http://www.benjiescaferacer.com/ mounts where the oil battery box did, easy enough...

Check out my build long on the SOHC4 site for info on the X-Pipe:

That M'F'er Dr. Monty Campbell sent me a damn pipe for a DOHC instead on my 73 CB 750 SOHC. Bike is not currently running, will let you know how it turns out in the next couple weeks.....

Thank you for the complements......
