Can anyone suggest a couple good sources for info on the XR1000 harleys
things like valve adjustment clearance, timing, carb tuning, good features vs. bad features etc. etc. I can't seem to find any "how to" tuning tips or general spec info on these. I found one I'm thinking about picking up,but theres just very little info on the web,as well as bike forum sites.Any help would be appreciated. I know someone on here knows someone who knows the low down on them
I don't have an answer for your question. The XR1000, however, is on the absolute top of my must-own list. They make me weak in the knees - even stone stock. Can't explain it.
Same as that, not a Harley man at all but outside of the factory Flat Trackers, they gotta be the sweetest looking bike to come out of Milwaukee in modern times.
For what it's worth, if ya can afford it get it, just to have and to hold. They are highly sought after here in the UK don't know what it's like over there though.
I got a HD factory shop manual off ebay, it was about $50.
I have a PDF of mods for the bike I will try to find it and post.
here is mine just got a 18 inch rear and a CR tank on it.
Thanks Darkhorsepower,I came across that pdf afew days ago,and I'm gonna check out Jerry's info that you suggested too.And Dragstews...I don't know were you guys keep finding this stuff, guess I wasn't searching the "right places" thanks again for the info!
That was from Thruall's H-D in Clarksville In....
Think the owner's name was Bill.....
Been in his shop many times.....
He used to warehouse new bikes until the ones on the floor was sold....
That XR, the last time I checked E bay, was at $24,000 on the bid and still had a day or two to go....
I do wonder what it did sell for...??
Did anyone keep up with it....??
Ya, Looks like the only thing done to it was polish the cam cover and primary....otherwise,completely stock,I think it even had the original oil in it! But it runs like a top and the more I detail it out, this thing looks showroom clean, all the little micro surface rust spots are cleaning up to like new finish. I'm stoked!! Did I mention 3500 original miles?? Thanks for all the help, info, and comments everybody,I feel like I definately made a "Good Score"!
Thanks,I'll keep that in mind Dragstews. How about oil...any reason not to use synthetic? Also, those motors were late enough to run unleaded without any issues to the valve seats, right?
Use Hi-Test gas... Those motors from the factory was at 9.0:1 on the compression...
I wouldn't use synthetic just yet...Wait till there is around 10,000 miles on the clock...
