Default Alternator / Regulator upgrade Ironhead V-Twin # 32-0390 Question?

Anyone have any experience with this? I just installed one on a 1971 Sporty that I never ran prior. I inspected the entire cam and inner parts, powder coated the cam cover reinstalled no issues or suspect parts. I fired the bike up for the first time and it is making a clunking sound from the cam area. I will re-tighten the gear in the morning but wanted to see if anyone else has any experience with this part good or bad I would like to hear about it.

Taiwan Tedd's part# 32-0390

I also have an alternator kit on my 1975 Ironhead. It was there when I got the bike last summer. Just getting it road worthy now and the last item to sort out is my charging light. Like to be sure it is charging before I spend much time on the road. I have generators on my other old bikes and have no issue troubleshooting charging issues with them.

So a few questions on the alternator.......

Will the charging light function with the alternator as it did with the generator?

How to test the alternator? I understand it should put out 30-40 volts AC when the bike is running. Is this correct?

If the solid state regulator is bad, is it the same part as with the generators or is it a special model for the alternator.....and if so any part number?

Thanks as always for the excellent feedback.

Here's a link to a previous thread on the subject: http://www.jockeyjournal.com/forum/s...ator+generator

The general consensus was that the V twin conversion is not a great part. So much so that I'd be embarrassed to re-sell the one that's sitting on my shelf, even at a bargain basement price.
