Rad, right? That's Jim Hunter in 1956. He was the third fastest bike on the salt that year... He turned just under 163mph....

Could you imagine pulling up next to some guy on his crotch rocket on a knucklehead and dusting him. That would rule.

Ryan -- This looks suspiciously like Jim "Tex" Hunter who worked as a wrench at Norm Reeves' BSA in SoCal when I met him in 1959. Jim was a member of the California Gophers MC, one of the premiere big-bike competition clubs in AMA's District 37. He raced a BSA Goldstar Scrambler he built and tuned himself and was one of the very best sportsman scrambles and TT experts in super-competitive District 37.

A few years older than I was, I admired Jim for being squared away in life as well as a helluva fine racer. Jim "Tex" Hunter was one of my favorite acquaintances back then, and remembering him now provides some special memories.

Thanks, Ryan

Sure the Hell is. For those "bucket listers" Let's go. Might have room for you. Leaving from Chicagoland.

It never ceases to amaze how people can have Bonneville on their "bucket list".

He's way over dressed! Landspeedracing videos.com has a video called the good old days. Its a collection of 8mm home movies made by the late Bob Higbee, Bonneville and El Mirage starter for over 50 years. Its Bonneville and El Mirage from the 50s, 60s, and a touch of the 70s. Fascinating stuff. A quick shot of Burt Munro starting off on a run. And some great shots of guys running at Bonneville ala Rollie Free. Swimming trunks and legs stretched out back. Some fabulous bikes and cars. And if it doesn't make you want to head for Bonneville, check your pulse.

"World's fastest Indian" with Anthony Hopkins is a great movie,
I think that is the one you speak of.

Would that be the "The Worlds Lastest Indian"? I really enjoyed "The Worlds Fastest Indian". Great movie. Oscar quality but the dickheads in Hollywood are clueless.
