on to the next project
I built this bike a few years ago when I was literally broke and just needed something to ride
so it was put together with all my spare parts
a few years later and Im still literally broke but wanted to change the look a little bit
motor is a 93" mid 70's shovel (made over 90hp on the chassis dyno)
paughco rigid frame ( I think no stretch/rake etc.)
4spd ratchet trans
plans are
-new narrower gas tank
-old narrowglide trees for 41mm tubes
-different seat
-possibly different rear tire/fender combination
-possibly do a tall sissy bar
-possibly ditch the electric starter and leave it kick only
-possibly do a horseshoe oil tank instead of the round and go with a smaller kick start battery or maybe switch to a magneto with no battery

this is what it looked like a few years ago when I built it

this is just after tonight messing around with some stuff I have for it
the tank looks a little weird with the wide glide front end
but the front end will be a lot narrower once I change the trees out

the trees Im gonna use

thanks for the compliments
getting a little closer
handle bars are all done ( I might cut them a bit narrower but they are good for now)

and got some mockup work done on the front brake setup
its super tight but I think I have enough clearance to make it work
so I plan on shaving this leg down to match the other one
then welding on some caliper mounts to match this caliper and locate it in the proper position
I might have to mill off a little bit on the backside of the caliper near the spokes but I should be fine to do that
the caliper looks plenty thick

next step is to machine the axle down to fit and make up some spacers for the proper spacing

non brake side

clearance between the back of caliper and the spokes

yeah the axle is a standard wide glide axle

the front end is a set of old narrow glide width trees made to fit the 41mm wide glide tubes
so I have to cut and re thread the standard wide glide axle to the correct width
as the narrow trees are a lot skinnier than the wide glide ones
you can see in the pics how much its sticking out on each end
Im also gonna have to turn down the axle a little bit on the non brake side of the front end to pass through the leg without the bottom cap

yeah I do my powdercoating at home,
I just have an old wall mount oven that I mounted to the wall in the garage
works well I can pretty much fit anything from a bike inside of it except for a frame and a 21" wheel

just a little update work has been slow on this lately
but Im turning the corner on here and she should be back on the road in about another week or so if I get some time to work on my own stuff instead of stuff to pay the bills haha

got the new axle all made up for the front end
got the new 21" wheel all finished up and tire mounted
tank should be back from paint tomorrow

heres how she looks on the ground with the new stuff on her

day light pics from yesterday
I had it out for a bit of a ride and it rode great the new front end is a lot more agile
and the new seat and handlebars feel great also
Im very very happy with the bike now
I was getting a little tired of it before and wasnt crazy about the style but Im back in love with this machine
its had to beat the feeling 93" shovel motor puts out

some more little changes
Im going with the horse shoe tank and ditching the elec start and the elec igntion and the coils and going with a no battery magneto setup
and swapping the 3" primary for 1.5"

just put the horse shoe on today

its getting better with each change you make
what you need now is a Avon mk2 reartyre ......oh shit i remember
your broke ....

well in the future than ;)
yeah that tire would look nice on there for sure
maybe when I wear out these metzlers I will do that

so I sold off the tech cycle kit and the 3" primary setup and with that cash I got this magneto setup and a nice 1.5" primary setup

got the heads back from the new valve job just waiting on the cylinders to be finished and hoping to button this thing back up in the next coming week

magneto installed
